Thanks @bibenu for this good summary of where we’re at with this. Wow, this is unfortunate. They must have made a huge mistake implementing this because otherwise it seems inconceivable this should be “complex”. I mean, one would suspect there is some sort of function that tells the machine to change pattern after change length has been reached, and all it would need to do is also send out the program change … But what do I know …
So, nobody from Elektron has confirmed any timeline of when we can expect a fix? Would it make sense we all write to them, so they are maybe pushed a bit?
I would say, don’t expect it to be fixed …
I sent this message something like January 2022 when they acknowledge the problem … so 3,5 ago, it was of highest priority … I would assume it was and has never really been a priority … as even before my message, the problem was existing.
I suspect there might be some awkward edge-cases when combining the different stimuli for a pattern change
track length and speed (if ‘per patterrn’)
pattern change and reset (both length and on/off) (looking at DT2 … there’s a ‘master’ on DT1 I think ?)
is there a pending pattern change from song mode ?
is there a pending pattern change from user or from midi ?
As always “it should be simple to code” is a questionable assertion, unless it comes from a developer with knowledge of the code … as you acknowledged.
Of course, you are right. I does not make sense to assert anything concerning the programming side of things. And I haven’t. But it is certainly safe to say that they seem to have made fundamental mistakes which cannot easily be fixed. Otherwise, it shouldn’t take more than 3 years. And definitely, this aspect of the OS is not working as it should … Ok, will write to the support about this.
It’s just ridiculous. I was actually thinking about this on my drive into work this morning. I have a DN2 on the way, and I want to use it with my ST. If I want to use individual track lengths, I can’t sync them - if I want to sync them, I can’t use individual track lengths. My only solution is a MIDI controller to send program changes to both at the same time, but that’s ridiculous. Bah.
I just emailed Elektron support again about it, along with links to all of the various topics from the last 5 YEARS. Let’s see if anything comes of it this time around.
