Hello to all,
Have read the manual…
Though something I am not clear with: Banks
How are the sounds I import being distrubuted in Banks?
ie:
- When bank A is full then bank B etc… or
- Do I assign sounds to Banks manually?
Thanks a lot,
V
Hello to all,
Have read the manual…
Though something I am not clear with: Banks
How are the sounds I import being distrubuted in Banks?
ie:
By sounds you import you mean the samples? The samples are shared between the whole project. You have a list of 128 slots and 64mb if I am not mistaken, and you will use this list for all banks in that project.
So banks are essentially a group of 16 patterns.
Thanks for that
This I understood but I am still unsure about how Banks are being filled with samples, sounds or patterns…
I don’t understand what you mean by your question. Could you rephrase please?
Sounds are snapshots of samples with all parameters saved, they are global and independent from which project you are at.
Hi @Padevil
I am certainly mistaking at a point
What I gather is that:
Sorry for the stupid question but apart from this aspect of the sound management, I think the Digitakt is a hell of a workhorse

You choose the bank when you save the sound.
@jefones
Ok
If I remember rightly the midi trig buttons select sound bank B,C,D and on.
Banks are for patterns, not sounds. The sound pool is for sounds and the sample pool is for samples. You have 8 banks that contain 16 pattern each, all of those patterns and banks share the same project sound/sample pool.
That’s actually not quite true! Sounds are also in banks.
they are two different sets of banks though - which is where the OPs confusion is coming from I think!
From p23 of the Digitakt manual:
"The total size of the +Drive is 1 GB. The +Drive Sound library can hold up to 2048 sounds (256 sounds in
each bank A-H) "
So there’s that first.
Plus - in every project, there are 8 banks, A-H with 16 patterns in each.
AFAIK - which bank a sound is in has no special relationship to which bank in a project it can be used in, as long as it is loaded into the project.
I’ll get my coat…
it’s not all that obvious tbh!
Before the sound pool the bank to sounds relationship was a little easier to grasp. Since the addition of the sound pool it has gotten a little more complicated.
Sounds on the +drive are stored in banks labeled a-h which can be selected by pressing the corresponding midi trig when you choose to export a sound. Sounds on the +drive can be loaded into any audio track to create a sort of kit. Banks a and b are the factory sounds that come with the unit and can be deleted if room is needed.
The soundpool is project specific and is used for sound locks. Sounds can not be sound locked to individual steps unless they are in the sound pool. The soundpool and the sound banks are not the same thing.
@jefones
That is where my grasp is… I know it is going to happen though
No seriously, this is what confuses me. Let’s see:
New project:
I load on audio track samples I have transfered into the DT. These 909, 808, 606 samples are in a folder called KITS. Question: do these pertain to a bank where they are stored on the +Drive?
I mess around with these samples making them a sound (correct?). These turn into patterns. Sounds and patterns can in their turn be saved/exported to the +Drive (in a specfic bank on the +Drive? ).
At the moment I have not yet exported anything. Therefore I believe banks A & B are the only ones filled with factory sounds and patterns?
Now the soundpool…
“The soundpool is project specific and is used for sound locks. Sounds can not be sound locked to individual steps unless they are in the sound pool. The soundpool and the sound banks are not the same thing.”
Where else could they be apart from the soundpool?
A bit at a loss here…
I like this DT very much though.

A sound is a sample + parameters saved to sound bank to be universally used in all projects, any sound loaded to an audio track replaces the current sample and parameter set.
Soundpool sounds( for inserting only) have to be taken from the sound banks and loaded to individual projects where they can be inserted on any step in any pattern in the project without changing the track parameters, they do not need to be related to any sample in the project ram, so you can have a full project ram(64mb/127 samples) plus 127 different soundpool sounds.
" so you can have a full project ram(64mb/127 samples) plus 127 different soundpool sounds."
but only if you have the samples used by the Sounds in the project RAM, right?
(just checking!)
The samples connected to the soundpool sounds are not linked to the project ram so they only need to be present in the +drive not loaded to the project ram.
ah, ok - as long as you Sound Lock them in?
or can you assign them to a track?
brilliant if so!
You hold the trig the want to add the sound to (whilst in record), turn the browser encoder to open the soundpool list and scroll through. The Soundpool is for trig insertion, you would just access the Sound banks(func+ browser encoder) if you wanted to assign a Sound to a track, Sounds are just presets.
