Digitakt and ERM Multiclock

Hi. I’ve got a Digitakt and other various grove boxes and a couple of synths. I also have an erm multiclock which I was using for them all before I bought the digitakt. I’m a bit confused about the routing as I’d like to control everything with the multi clock instead of abletons external instrument plugin. I have a midi audio interface. If this is possible what would the routing need to be. Also I want to programme my synths on the digitakt, but not the grove boxes.

Hi, sorry, but you question is a little confusing. I suggest to split it up in little sections. How should we know about your previous audio and midi routing?

First of all, the erm multiclocks main purpose is to sync your daw and hardware devices via an audio stream from your daw, so do you still wanna do that?

If you do a more specific list of your gear I’m sure there are many here that will help you with some suggestions for a midi routing.

Here’s my general suggestion:

If you have 4 external devices (including the Digitakt) the most straight forward setup for both sync and midi note data would be to:

  1. Use the sync plugin to generate sync signal from your DAW.

  2. Utilize the USB midi on the Multiclock in your DAW. You get 4 midi ports over USB that you can use to send midi note and cc data to each of the 4 devices from your DAW.

  3. Configure the Digitakt to not send midi clock and start, stop and contunue messages.

  4. Connect the Digitakt DIN midi output to the Multiclock DIN midi input port and use the Midi In Mapper to route incoming channels to the different midi ports of the Multiclock.

So I want to control my Nord sh101 microkorg 303 with my digitakt through midi sequencing. There is always latency issues with abletons plugin, sometimes the latency differs from project to project so it’s a pain using it. What I want to do is control the midi tracks from my digitakt with the erm so they are always bang on?

So I edited my first reply (see above) with an example setup.

That might give you the flexibility to:

  1. Send midi clock to all your devices.
  2. Send midi note and cc from your daw to all devices.
  3. Send midi note and cc from the Digitakt to your devices.

However, the Ableton plugins that are giving you problems won’t get any better. I mean there’s a huge difference between monitoring and recording if the audio is being processed by plugins with various latency in real time.

Exactely how I do and it works great! Regarding to the plugin issues. I’ve no problems with that. When you pre-adjust everything in the ERM and in ableton due to timing things you should have no big latency probs. Because the audiostream going to the erm “comes” after abletons delay-compensation.
