The 100Wh are at 3,7V, so it’s way less but still enough. The DT runs down to 11,4V, then it hangs up.
I like the feel of elektron hardware power supply sipping off the mains, especially for syntakt to keep my lap warm. the latest 2 amp ripcords and birdcords and a anker 747 will power digiBoxes tho. if you search PD (power delivery) USB C, there are more and more (just a cable) USB-C PD cable options that terminate to 9v and 12v, USB C can handle hundreds of watts, “power delivery” cable ensures it has the right circuitry to know just how much to deliver. built in battery is small fish for a desktop hardware unit, unless it’s designed dedicated handheld/mobile, M8 or aira compact or MPC Live
I have that model too! Can recommend
For anybody interested, i’m powering mine with an Omni 20+
Also, for UK based people, i’m using this cable from PiHut, which has a really nice fit 12V 5A USB-C 3.1 PD to 5.5mm Barrel Jack Cable - 1.2m with E-Mark | The Pi Hut
And this extension USB C cable to extend range from the battery to 4.2m total USB-C Extension Cable for Raspberry Pi 4 | The Pi Hut
I’ve used both of these cables above (in their correct voltages for the respective gear) for powering other gear too, when the polarity is centre positive, so I know they’re quality durable cables that have caused me no problems in over a year and half long term regular use.
Powering up it looks to draw a peak of 10 watts and the WAXSAFETY project running draws around 8.15 watts.
Disclaimer: It’s worth pointing out too that the cables need a PD battery to draw the correct voltage so you don’t risk breaking your gear.
FYI for folks here, many PD capable battery packs DO NOT work for 12V PD as required for the Elektron machines. It is common for them to have 5V, 9V, & 15V but be missing the 12V. All the Anker packs I have looked at are missing the 12V. Be sure it supports the right voltage before buying.
Can I also run the DT2 off a MacBook or even iPhone USB-C port with the mentioned Adafruit cable?
Elektron is a small company with a unique dream and tradeoffs must be made
So I have a GP M2 power bank with PD that delivers 1.67A at 12 Volts (20.0W max)
Should it work safely with the Songbird 12 V PD cable?
The thought of people carrying a Digitakt around with them, just in case inspiration strikes, is mind boggling. Inspiration usually strikes while I’m sitting at my desk, playing on Digitakt, not while I’m walking my dog. Well, not totally true, but if I’m walking my dog and inspiration strikes, I usually just beatbox it out. I don’t think I’ve ever wanted to pull out my Digitakt and sit down to program a beat, lol
…also…
What race??
Or it’s a nice day out and people want to intentionally go make music in a local park instead of inside at home. All kinds of reasons to want a battery in your gear.
Internal batteries also shorten the life cycle of a device, as they will eventually fail. They’re expensive and can be hard to replace.
Anyways, there are too many threads dedicated to this topic, haha.
Because it wasn’t designed around it and you can just buy a battery pack. Wanting is fine and understandable, though it’s not worth arguing/ranting about since it is easily achievable.
If you want to “be in the race”, buy a birdcord and a battery pack.
Or an MPC, Ableton Move, something T.E. makes, SP404, Electribe, a laptop, etc…
Yup, at least it’s easy to adapt to over trying to will a ground-up hardware platform redesign into existence through the powers of manifestation
For your information, I have been running my DD II on battery for two months for around twenty euros:
– TRONIC® Powerbank (Lidl) 20000 mAh currently on sale for €20: the model is “Power Delivery” (PD) and can output 12V at 1.5A. (https://www.lidl.fr/p/tronic-batterie-externe-tpb20000c1/p100379225001)
– USB C Type-C PD to 12V converter cable, 5.5x2.5mm ordered from AliExpress for around €5 and arrived in a week. (https://fr.aliexpress.com/item/1005004931362697.html?spm=a2g0o.order_list.order_list_main.5.29f35e5bgDZgVQ&gatewayAdapt=glo2fra) (Make sure you get the right one: it’s the last one available.)
Everything works perfectly!
I use a battery pack and the adafruit cord, working great but it is a little bit of a hassle when you want to use it. You must have a place to set the battery, you also need to route the cord so it isn’t stressing the jack. It’s less “portable” and more like “I can use this away from an outlet.”
It would be INCREDIBLE if Elektron made a very thin steel battery pack which is the same footprint as the Digi box itself and which connects to the VESA mount on the bottom; I’m thinking Game Boy Player for Gamecube vibes! That would turn it into a true (chonky) portable. Fairly large capacity battery please, like 25K or more. PLEASE use a short little dual right angle barrel connector to link the battery to the unit so that it is very low profile, thank you!
