Digitakt 2 velocity setting changes Cutoff on Typhon, seemingly nothing on Minilogue XD

Hi all,

I’m a bit puzzled. I recently purchased a Digitakt 2 and couldn’t be happier. Massive improvement over the 1st iteration.

I did notice something odd… I was programming a bassline and wanted to change the velocity setting on a track set to midi machine. I tried it on my minilogue XD module first without seemingly affecting the velocity of the note played. I then connected my Typhon and tried again.

The weird thing is that, depending on the settings (param output cc/ nprn), I get either a cutoff that changes (cc) or tune 2 change (nprn). I’m not sure if this has something that has to do with a setting somewhere on either the Digitakt or the Minilogue/ Typhon or if it’s a bug. Can someone confirm please?

If it’s a setting, I’d like to know which setting but also if anyone else has noticed this behavior.
I’m on 1.02 by the way

Any input would be appreciated, happy sampling!

Does the Minilogue XD have velocity mappings on the patch you’re working on? Looks like it can be routed to filter cutoff OR amp. Unsure if it’s just one at a time though and/or if it’s enabled by default.

The Typhon also looks like it needs to be assigned though it would appear that you can send it to a few destinations in varying amounts per parameter. Unsure why it’d behave differently when using CC vs NRPN other than perhaps the Typhon doesn’t support NRPN values.

Hi D4ydream, thanks for responding.

I would not know how to check this although, when I enter the “Program Edit” menu on the XD and click button 8, I can set EG velocity between 0 and 100 and AMP Velocity between 0 and 100. Changing neither settings makes an audible difference. For comparison, it does work through my Oxi one and my controller keyboard at least so velocity is being sensed.

Setting VCA level to 100 (through Menu > 4. Velocity > 12. VCA level) allows me to control the velocity setting om my Typhon through the Oxi one. Trying the same through Digitakt does not allow me to change the percieved “volume” of a note. There are no other settings with regards to note loudness that allow me to control it. As far as the CC vs. NPRN thing goes, I want to stick to CC’s . NPRN is another level that I’m not yet ready to touch

Just remembering that velocity is part of the note on/off message and it’s independent of CC/NRPN. So that setting ‘shouldn’t’ impact velocity. That being said, how are you setting velocity on the DT2? Are you p-locking each note with different velocity levels?

I am stupid. Indeed, that was the issue. I had set the velocity to 100 on each individual note and hey presto, after removing them, the vel control knob was able to control Amp velocity on the Minilogue XD (with Amp velocity set to 127 on the XD).

Thanks for the pointer!
