I’m reading it more this way, wrt the psu barrel end (might be wrong) …
if i had to do something like this, i might try to solder a little/thin smooth blister on the barrel (quickly) to make it snugger

Hrm, wonder if something like silicone caulking would adhere here to compress, retain and prevent slippage (or just get crumbles everywhere + stuck in the gear with my luck.)
A flatter bead of leaded solder ought to adhere well enough, be soft-ish and secure the opposite side slightly better.
all too easy to ruin a plug if that solder didn’t flow super quick
wrt the general topic : my hot take is that it’s possibly better if a plug isn’t too tight, because if it does get pulled you are more likely to create damage to the barrel/socket
obviously reports above that sound more like a dry joint on the socket are unworkable - but i have also suffered a fractured OTog barrel as its cable at the barrel was a little inflexible and any tension does damage inside
as long as the power is getting in i’d be more focussed on secondary cable retention to an output cable perhaps with a bit of spiral wrap
if the sockets are dodgy, then replacement might be best of course
That’s what I did. Make the dc plug just a tiny bit oval
No. The plug you put into the device.
In general I agree, the basic design of the model line between socket and PSU connector at best is still way too loose for the angles I’d use it in.
Fine if it’s on a desk and i don’t need to move it, but if I have to raise it, fzzt.
If it’s on my lap and i’m bouncing on those buttons, fzzt.
Both my Models, I may have sent one in, I’ve swapped the PSUs, the default flex is understandable to avoid strain/shear/breaking a solder connection but also is just not great for an instrument that sees moderately enthusiastic use.
Perfect! I’ll ponder how a small deformation might help (or hurt.) If nothing else I likely have spare otherwise working PSUs (shipped for this issue ages back.)
i just got the dn2 back from elektron and it’s functioning perfectly
turnaround time was about a month which isn’t so bad
thank you @Elektron !
