Digitakt 2 copy/paste pad(trig)

DIGITAKT II

Hey there. I am a new user. I am trying to figure out how to copy/paste a pad(trig) to another pad trig. For instance…copy pad(trig) 1 to pad(trig) 6. Not the pattern, just the pad sound. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Make sure the track sound you want to copy is selected, hold track then copy, move to the track you want to paste to, hold track and paste.

Hey digimatt, appreciate the fast response. Unfortunately when I perform the suggested actions that copies the entire pattern. To access copy I have to first press the function key while holding selected track. This combo copies the pattern though. If I do not press the function key the record is activated. Are your steps for the Digitakt II?

Thanks digimatt

Make sure you are NOT in record mode (i.e. the red Record button is NOT lit)

If you want to copy the sound from track 1 to track 16…

Hold TRK + 1 + Copy
Hit 16
Hold TRK + Paste

You’ll see “PASTE TRK 16 PRESET” after the copy/paste, and you can hit TRK + Paste again to undo the paste if you messed up.

Hope that helps!

Ahhhhhh! got it. This is my first time joining a forum, this is cool af!!! Thank you!!!

You should be in record mode (trigs illuminated red). Press and hold the trig key you want to copy from and then hit the copy key. Then hold the trig key you want to copy to and hit the paste key.

Yeah, this will also do it but will also copy over any trig-specific p-locks in addition to the track sample/sound.

I am completely lost and need help…

Regarding DT2

What I am trying to achieve is copy one of the 16 pad and move it to a different pad.

I want everything moved meaning triggers+preset sound+pattern+ page

Dunno how to describe it better. Say I move 1 to 16, I want when I press play to have 16 sounding identical to 1.
is there a way to copy everything in one move?

Till now I try copying and often end up either missing triggers or sequence etc

No, you need to copy and paste the sequence data for the track (in Grid Rec Mode Func+REC and Func+Stop), then copy and paste the preset data (Track+Rec, then Track+Stop) to the new track too. It’s couple more button presses only, but yes having a way to do it all in one go would definitely speed things up.

Ah ok.

Thank you for the input

I don’t want to sound like “that guy” but it will pay off in heaps if you just read the manual. There are tons of youtube videos on Elektron instruments, too.

The Elektron sequencer has a slight learning curve, but when you dig into it, which the manual helps with, things are ultra fast and intuitive.

XNB has created one of the best onboarding videos for the machine. I really recommend you watching it. It’s long but it will allow you to hit the ground running.

I have read the manual more than once. I have to admit though that i come from a different
backround so not everything i read automatically means i understand. For example until recently i did not even know what „Note Priority“ is. So even if i read it somewhere i was like „what is this?“
Now amplify this by many many technical descriptions and all of the sudden i find it hard to follow at times.
I have also watched some of XNB videos but its hard to memorize so much information.
Especially when things that for years were very trivial in a daw. Like duplicating a track. It takes 1 second
But on the DT2 i have to understand the structure and am like „Ok i have to copy and paste also the Track but then also the Trigs and then…. what happens if i have multiple pages? Do i copy pages of trigs? Or the pages themselves? Will i end up with copies of the whole sequences of all tracks? Brain meltdown……“ it probably sounds dumb to more experienced users but i find it relatively complicated solved for easy things (at least easy in a daw i mean) like copying a track and moving it elsewhere. There is so much that can and does often go wrong when i try to move stuff. But i am working on it

Absolutely not. What you’re saying makes perfect sense.

Truth be told, I mistook you for someone who is just lazy – my bad, I apologize for that.

If you’re having problems digesting/internalizing a lot of info, one of the ways one can deal with a similar issue is creating their own ChatGPT bot and feeding it relevant PDF manuals. It’s super easy to to do and works really well.

For instance, I have a GPT set up which I fed all my music gear manuals and then I ask it questions like: “If I want to send midi CCs from Digitone to MC101, what do I do step by step” and – presto – I get step by step instructions straitght from the PDFs ;).

Maybe this will be a nice solution for you?

edit: I asked it your question and this is the answer:

"Truth be told, I mistook you for someone who is just lazy „ Don`t worry. Thats the internet. We never know who we are talking to many times. Happens to everyone sooner or later.

My first try with a Digitakt was 1-2 years ago where i bought one and after a few months of „almost investing time“ to learn it i sold it just before i was about to break it out of frustration.

Then when 2 came out and my biggest argument against the first one (No stereo sample support)
i thought to try again. I manage to do some jams and have immense fun with it. After a point it "clicked“ and i started adding knowledge and experience in the Elektron world.
But God forbid if i have to do something „deeper“ function wise i start shaking in fear

That said, about this GPT solution also a good friend suggested it and for some reason i supressed the memory. I have no used GPT very often so it took me some time to decide but i might actually try your suggestion tbh. Makes sense

Thank you very much for the insight &
Merry Christmas

Glad to be of assistance! I’m keeping my fingers crossed for you – once Elektron “clicks for you”, it’s hard to find a more immediate instrument.

Merry Christmas!
