Anyone experience any shifts in the sound of their projects when importing DT1 Projects into DT2?
I’ve only tested a handful of Projects, and I noticed a couple of issues:
• The way Bit Reduction values are applied is different.
This was really noticable on a basic pattern with a clap and hats with some BR applied — the tails on both sounds were way more noisy and grainy, and I had to dial back the BR value on the DT2, to approximate the sound of the DT1.
(I assume this phenomenon has something to do with the fact that each machine uses different values for this Parameter: DT1 is 0-127 for BR, while D2 goes from 16 bits down to 1)
• The mix balance has shifted a bit on some Projects
I’ve only tested a few projects, but when I A/B’d between the DT1 and DT 2, some elements were louder in the mix than the original track. Not quite sure what the reason is yet, there were no FX or filters on these sounds that might be the culprit.
I’m glad I didn’t import everything — and I would strongly urge everyone to A/B their projects before deleting anything from their DT1. I will continue testing and report back.
I also experienced some reorganisation of my sample folder structure on my DT2 following import from DT1.
In short — I would DEFINITELY back up everything on both devices before attempting importing projects from DT1 into DT2 — I’m not sure this functionality can be 100% trusted yet.
Would be great if Elektron did a video on this — or at least documented it in the Transfer or DT2 manual.
Hey, I’m wondering if it is still a thing?
I haven’t seen a single thread about importing DT1 projects to DT2 since June, does it mean it has become a breeze since?
I’m asking specifically about the issue described with MIDI tracks (MIDI knobs enabled by default and set to 0).
Thanks!
When I did it, it broke quite a few of my sample slots (missing / randomly assigned samples) and made projects that had “global mode” enabled for the external input settings impossible to edit.
Someone from support very nicely offered to fix the project manually for me, and that was cool, but it took me a long while to unwrap what was actually going on and describe it. I believe it was a combination of running an earlier firmware version and importing projects that were initially created early on in the DT1’s lifespan. In any case, I would definitely recommend making a backup before trying this. Without one I would have been screwed.
No idea. I’ve barely used my DT2 since I got it, oddly enough. Haha.
A small follow-up after transferring my project from DT1 to DT2 (big project with around 100 loaded samples and most banks full of patterns).
My DT1 was in version 1.40b when I backed up the project. Maybe it was a cause of some issues I encountered.
What I could notice:
I still don’t get that default setting choice, same on Digitone 2.
The positive thing is that it will push me to make a template. ![]()
Even with last DT2 update ?
yep, pretty sure I updated to 1.03A before importing the project.
