I’m just starting down this path. Though I have used Elektron boxes for quite a while my normal procedure is to build something I like and record it to use in Live. Now I am looking to tie my Digital 2 and Syntakt together for the enjoyment of the extra channels. The dilemma of my thought process is if you keep the drums together on one machine it is easier to glue them together and make them sound more like a cohesive kit. But I can see myself frequently wanting to split the kit while also creating non-percussion parts on both boxes. How do you manage this? Is it a non-issue when performing and easily fixed by recording all the parts to separate tracks? Do you try to keep drums together on one device? Can some drums like bass be split out while others need to be cohesive?
Coincidentally, I recently went through this conundrum and realized I was putting way too much thought into it. So I connected them up, started a new project with matching names, and just started making music. And it’s all fine.
I have some patterns and rules I’ve started to follow, but they only came around when I stopped thinking about it.
What it comes down to for me is, what do I want affected by the fx block, and how i want to use the compressor.n you’ll get different flavors depending on how you process the drums through the two boxes. my best tip would be; experiment and try everything out then decide what you like best for your particular workflow.
Sample your Syntakt drums into the DT2. Should be enough tracks on the DT to accommodate both
