I refer you to an answer I posted earlier in the week: Pattern Origins? - #2 by Octagonist

Just select a kit for a pattern, either by saving a new kit or selecting an existing. Func + Mute I believe. That kit is now associated to that pattern. Remember that if the same kit is used elsewhere any changes saved to it will be applied to all patterns that uses it.

Edit: this excerpt is describing the SAVE KIT action from the KIT MENU (accessible with [FUNC]+[PLAY]).

For clarification, fcn+play opens the kit menu from which a new kit can be loaded…which is what i think OP wants to do:)….

Actually, “save as” another Kit also works. Loading an empty Kit is rarely an option I choose.

Ok there is many ways to approach this. But im imagining OP wants a different kit, and as one option, a different existing kit instead of a blank new kit. Only way to get there is loading a kit….

But yeah, if they want to associate a random new kit or be able to save existing kit as new to edit it for a new pattern, they can do as you say:).

Are we making it easier for the OP or what

You’re perfectly right, my message above was confusing, I amended it.
Sorry @ZOZOboy, I hope you understood @sjvl’s points.

Let me try to get the list of actions on a Kit, to clarify the workflow…
When starting a new Pattern, the current Kit is the one assigned to the previous Pattern.

  • you want to share the same Kit across both Patterns, so that adjustments made are also reported on the previous Pattern (e.g. levels of each track)? All good, there is nothing to do
  • you want to use another Kit you used previously (e.g. a Kit you use as a Template in this Project)? Fn+[Kit] (== [Play] button) > Load
  • you want to save the current Kit as a new Kit that you’ll be able to modify without impacting a Kit bound to another Pattern? Fn+[Kit] > Save + choose a new slot. This is the first action I do when starting a new Pattern, most of the time.
  • you want to start from scratch? Fn+[Kit] > Clear Kit then Fn+[Kit] > Save

Once you’ve made adjustments to the Kit currently bound to the current Pattern (and possibly right before switching to another Pattern) Quick Save the Kit with YES+[Kit] combo.
If you’ve just messed with the current Kit settings (e.g. while jamming) and want to come back to the previous saved state, Quick Load it with NO+[Kit] combo.

Pro-tip for new Rytm users - save a kit per pattern in the same slot as the pattern, with the pattern name!

For example:

Pattern A-1, save a kit in slot 1 with the name A-01.

Pattern E-11, save a kit in slot 75 with the name E-11.

Keeps you oriented until kits and patterns become second nature.

Yes! This is what I have been adopting.

I don’t keep the order of the slots, but apart from this I always number my Kit after the Pattern (without the minus sign to Mae it shorter). Very good point @min0nim.

Thanks a lot for the support and details, my life is better thanks to you.
