Did you ever consider buying an original vintage TB-303?

It’s funny, I have read about how the (discontinued) BA662 VCA/OTA chip reacts with the sequencer and accent, as well as the Filter envelope gives the (OG) tb303 it’s special sauce.
I’ve also heard that Thru-hole construction is part of that vibe too.
I’m not sure if Paranoid London use an OG in the studio, live they use a mixture of TT-303 & RE-303, and they definitely have vibe.

Saw a swap offer once. TB303 for a Monomachine mk2+.

It got to the stage where the tb was plugged in next to the mono to demo.

The chap said he had two TBs. I asked why he was choosing to swap this one and not the other one. “No particular reason”.

I’ve used two tbs in my life. Both had that twang, bass presence and movement in the sequencer that = acid. This one had no twang, presence or groove. I think it was of the later revs.

I kept the mono and have no regrets.

I did. Then the market exploded and now we have all these clones including the Din Sync. I have a Bass Bot v2, especially the square is kinda off, doesn’t really sound like a good sounding 303, but it has an awesome sequencer, you can even engage accent, slide, up/down in realtime by hitting the buttons and while it doesn’t really sound like the real thing, it’s enough for me.

I love the acid sound. I grew up with it. But even if I’d become a billionaire, I’d rather buy Roland as a whole and force them to build proper gear which isn’t an UX nightmare instead of buying this thing.

:scream: ok - would also NEVER swap a MNM vs a TB-303

I remember when you could readily find them for hundreds, not thousands. and I still didn’t want one. never liked that sound. :man_shrugging:

I did I buy one. In 1995 for £300. Sold it a couple of years later for £900. Probably should have kept it.

I’m an absolute acid techno freak. Was headbanging to the point of injuries to the whole Chris Liberator/DDR/Dave the Drummer/Lawrie Immersion London Acid thing in the late 90s.

Back then there weren’t many options, so yeah, there was a desire to own the real deal. ReBirth always sounded like ass to me. I had a Syntecno TeeBee MK3 from 2005-2013ish which was great. I’ve also had a x0xb0x which is OK. To be honest, my TD-3-MO is a ton of fun for 1/30th of the cost!

The fate of many. I’m kinda glad I’m too young for this being an issue for me. I’d probably kick myself in the butt every morning for not having bought at least a 303.

No, but I know for a fact that an original vintage TB-303 has considered buying me.

If I had the money I’d buy an avalon instead. My bass bot will be here tomorrow.
