I want to buy a desktop patchbay but I can’t make up my mind between these two devices.
I don’t really understand what the send-return model means on a patchbay so I’m kind of confused as to what the Ppro can do that the Minibay can’t (besides the seamless switch to a different effect chain).
I really need help and am going the experts here can lend me their insight.
I find myself coming to the conclusion that Patchulator v2 is the best choice. Possibly even multiple Pv2s as a central switchboard between mixers and FXs. Main issue with DFA is not using stereo mini jacks. I don’t see the additional features of PPro being worth the money over Pv2.
For me personally, I would like to have a center piece between mixers and effects with “multi-bus” architecture. Something like what MRCC does for MIDI, but for audio.
Let’s see:
4 mono + 3 stereo inputs (auxes / group outs from mixer / patchbay)
5 mono + 8 stereo/mono loops (pedals)
2 mono + 4 stereo outputs (returns in mixer / master out / recording interface)
I replaced a couple audio interfaces, adat expanders, patchbay, standard reverb/delay/filter pedals with Behringer Wing and can route everything to anything either through the mixer or ipad. 1000€ for Rack or 1500€ for compact with motorized faders. Recently needed to add another section on the studio just added a 200€ stagebox and those synths can be routed to any pedal on the main mixer.
