Desktop synth to sound like Juno and/or super saw?

Hi guys,

So, i am wanting to add a synth to my live setup, something analogy and gritty like a Juno, but i simply dont have space for one. Apart from taking the sample route, is there anything out there that might get me close?

Im looking for something that has at least 6 note poly and that is a stand alone module i can play form a MIDI keybaord.

The other sound i am looking for is a super saw sound (which i know i cant do with a Juno!) but is there anything out there that might do both?

PS - im not a fan of waltdorf…

PPS - something with a high knob to function ratio is ideal!

I think you are looking for a jp8000

Or a V-Synth XT for similar JP8000 sounds in desktop form, plus a load of other features.

if you just want the supersaw sound, get a jp8080 - i think they are $500, cheaper than V-synth…

if you have more cash, get a v-synth. id swap one for my jp8000 if I could

A polysynth that sounds like a classic Roland that isn’t a Roland? That’s hard.

The MFB Dominion X SED is a 3 oscillator mono, but sounds as close to a Jupiter/Juno as I’ve ever heard. In another year or so there will be a Poly version…

Cheers for the suggestions guys. I think as you identified, im looking for that roland sound The Roland JP8080 looks very close to what im after, thanks!

Ill keep an eye out for the new MFB when it arrives also!

Not such a fan of the V synth interface, but it sounds great!

I also found the SH-32, which looks a bit like a confusingly laid out toy, but seems to have some real fanboys who swear by it. Anyone tried one?

The SH-32 is a pretty great VA synth. I’d recommend trying to demo the sound (and the layout) before you buy it- the interface isn’t the greatest and the filter gets very wobbly and digital sounding at higher resonances. But it hits face-melting lows and convincing highs. In fact, it’s best at shimmering arpeggios and big mid-high pads.

It’s from 2001 and you’re going to hear it’s age sometimes (the presets sound like club techno of that era through and through and you’ll find the sweet spot of digital crackle showing through the analog tones to work great for that era of music). If you can find one reasonably priced it’s worth a try: you can always just sell it for what you bought it for. But if you run into major price inflation I’d just save up a little more and buy a better synth.

Great advice, thanks! I might keep an eye out for one of those then, as yous ay it seems one to try out assuming its not been hyped by the ‘vintage’ bug that people seem to slap on any piece of gear not release din the last 5 years…

The SH-201 is also a very underrated synth. And can be had pretty cheap.
