Demonstration of the A4 with microtonality and FM

Hi,

I just posted this track to SoundCloud to demonstrate what can be achieved on an A4 by itself.

It’s a very simple patch but to me it doesn’t sound like traditional subtractive synthesis.

And if anyone wants the sysex or parameters to achieve it let me know

very nice indeed

Nice ! Intersted in your method too, u can never learn enough !

There you go. I’m not sure whether the sysex will contain the FX settings but I’m happy to share those too of course.

Thank you for the sysex file !
Can you describe a bit more or explain a bit more the patch or process and interest of this microtonal patch ?
TY very much dear anyway, It will make my afternoon !

Hi

You’re welcome; I like making patches and playing them, trying to emulate sounds I like, and explore.

My interest at the moment is to mess around with what sounds acceptably out of tune. That pad (one of a few) is at the border of it for me, for others not enough. I like the FM features of the A4 and I hope they border on sounding natural and organic (and not traditionally subtractive sounding). Also, playing with ‘sweeter’, ‘purer’ sounding patches and making them warp and go out of tune adds unease to contrast with ‘sweetness’.

I think the ‘character’ of the patch hangs on osc 1 being transposed 3 octaves up. If you bring the osc down it affects the patch a lot.

Here’s another one (the aftertouch at the end is nice imo)

Again if folks want the sysex I’ll provide it.

looking at the way you constructed these patches, would you mind telling us a little more about your reasoning / choosing the settings that are there?

Hi

Thank you.

Honestly, i just twiddle until i like the sound I’m hearing. Most of the time I’m trying to find a sound in my head but i end up somewhere totally different.
