Demo (of sorts) of gadget string expansion with octatrack

KApro orchestral expansion. Love these strings, sound super realistic. Loaded 5 instances in gadget plus 1 upright bass from the madrid gadget. Recycled the drum loop @sezare56 sent me and chooped and mangled it way more.

Beautiful man! Kinda reminds me of Bjork’s Joga from Homogenic

Beautiful drums !
Really good and different version.
Could you give more details about how strings notes are recorded, aplayed, loop length, randomness or not…

Thanks. Not sure i have heard it but i like bjork. Will look it up.

Thanks again:slight_smile:

The strings are just played into gadget, 16 bars each (some 8) on my little korg nanokey studio which is velocity sensitive, pretty expressive little controller.

I used the ios app replicant 2 from audiodamage to shuffle up your drum loop and added modulated but reduction with fabfilter saturn and in the ot i pitched it up and every scene has modifications of bit reduction and other fx. And then a straighter kick hat loop made with 808 samples.

really beautiful strings ,inspiring music, i thinks the drums are a bit low on volume and need a little eq on the high end it will be even more beautiful.cheers

Thanks, you may be right  i was back and forth on bringing them up more or keeping it more string centric.

usually i take several days for the mixing, listening on headphones , my monitors , in my cars, usually the good decisions come after, with fresh ears , maybe a litlle compression on the drums.thats how i heard on my monitors , totally 100% subjective. i have focal alpha 50 monitors.

the little green organism thing in the upper left is
really fun, well done!

How do you use the big sky with the octatrack?
How is set up?

Yeah for “real” songs i usually take a longer time and monitor well in different environments but since I started making these videos i have been all about making decisions on the fly and knocking them out in one take. Everything from idea genesis, improvisation, sequencing etc happens in 3-4 days so i do one or two a week, depending on time. All with headphones and just working with a stereo master file. I have really been enjoying doing that because it feels very organic and when i listen back i’m surprised by happy accidents. Eventually i might pick out a few sessions and do “proper” audio versions but at the moment i like to just jump to a new idea. I appreciate the advice.

Here i am using it in cue/studio mode and monitoring it through dir inputs. tnight i am going tomsetup a looping session and use it going into the recorders to get different sounds
