Deep, dubby, organic kick

Hi everyone,

i’m really in love wirh the AR but i still got some problems with my kickdrums. If i compare them with some sampled kicks that i play via ableton live (e.g. with a Kick VST like Sonic Academys Kick) the kicks from the AR seem quite cautious and inconspicuous. Dont get me wrong, if i go for Hardstyle snappy laser Kicks with a little distortion everything is fine and heavy. But i look for something similar to the Kick in this example here: http://www.attackmagazine.com/technique/beat-dissected/dark-berlin-techno/

Maybe someone can give me some Tips which machine i could use or what kind of settings i should tweak to get a sound similar to this fat dubby kick :wink:

Hi,

Best to experiment. That kick you posted sounds nice and tight. Try using the filter to cut out harmonics. Play with amp attack and kick sweep/depth.

use bass tom (BT) mashine for such kicks

No, for that berlin kick you want to use the BD HARD machine…all the knock in the kick is from careful settings of the SWT and SNP settings.

Can’t disagree there, and it seems like there’s some RES on the kick so either add some with the filter cutoff moving via either a filter ENV or half shot LFO.

i will continue trying do get as close as possible to that sound :wink: your tips already gave me some nice kicks :smiley: still not exactly the sound that i was looking for but i’'ll try to experiment a little more.

of course if someone of you is able to recreate the dubby sound that i postet i would appreciate it to see your chosen parameters :wink:

If there’s no modulation in the kickline going on, just sample it?

Of course i could that, but i dont implicitly want to copy that kick and use it. It’s more about getting a better understanding how to create sounds with analog gear. And to train my skills for that, i’m always looking for nice Sounds (like this Kick) to recreate them within a machine.
And with this Kick especially it’s really hard for me. Maybe its just not possible so get that exact style with the AR at the moment. But i never give up :wink: And due to the fact that i’m quite sure that i just use about 30% of the AR, i think there must be a way.
