For the life of me I can’t work out how to get a pattern playing on the DB-01 sequencer from an external source. I’m using an OT connected to midi in, sending out the correct info. I can play the DB keyboard through the OT (DB in keyboard/arp mode), but can’t start the DB with the OT play button.
No problem with any other midi source connected to the OT.
I understand pattern change isn’t an option with the DB-01, that’s fine, I just need it to start in time with other gear.
Any advice here much appreciated.
Hi, make sure that you’ve enabled send clock / transport and not just midi notes? If the db-01 responds to key presses on the OT then the midi channel is undoubtedly correct.
There’s no way on the DB-01 to distinguish between MIDI transport and notes. There is on Elektron boxes. So that is probably where the issue is.
That might be it then. I tried external, will set to midi. Let’s see. Thanks
Yeah, if I remember correctly ‘EXT’ is for the clock in (the non-midi one)
Good luck!!!
If you make some progress let us know, I’m sure someone else will have the same issue sooner or later and this will prove valuable.
So, yeah, just set clock source to ‘midi’ in the config menu. I didn’t realise it was an option beyond internal or external, just looked like the menu had moved on to me.
All sorted now. Juicy basslines from that sweet OT play button. Thanks for the advice everyone.
Hopefully this will benefit someone else in the future, as I had been looking all over for the answer.
Oh, I see, DB-01 was getting and responding to the transport signal, but the DB-01 sequencer was not advancing because clock source was set to external and not MIDI. I had something similar happen once when I left it on external and the next time I powered it up standalone, it would not respond to the play button. I had to set it to internal for that.
Awesome!
