I seen Sasha & John Digweed a few years ago in Glasgow @ SWG3 and the majority of the crowd was older, definitely around the 50 mark.
50s not old matey!!!
It was one of the best atmospheres I’ve ever experienced:)

when the great beatmachine apocalypse comes and everyone on this planet with no beatmachine disappears, these two shall be spared this I decree ![]()
I’m 62 but look barely 50. So when I go to concerts with my 20 year old son I wear a backwards hat and then look 45ish. Would love to go clubbing but I did that long ago and have fond memories. I’m good.
A few weeks ago my kids (20 and nearly 18) and I went to see LCD Soundsystem together. We share a lot of taste in music, and this was one we all were very excited for.
The show was fairly age-diverse, but definitely much more weighted to the middle-aged, such as myself. Everybody across all ages was absolutely up on their feet and booty-shaking for all the grooves (The big drop in “Dance Yrself Clean” was as satisfying as one can imagine).
Both of my kids had an absolute blast, and afterward they told me how much they’ve come to prefer shows that draw older crowds because a) most people dance without seeming to care about anything other than moving their bodies in a way that gives them joy, b) people aren’t screaming and crying like idiots rather than actually enjoying the music, and c) phone use is much, much more limited…people take pics and short vids from time to time, but don’t sit there thinking they should document the whole damn thing.
They assure me that most of their friends share their sentiments. It was a great show.
I wish my Dad played with every beatmachine under the sun, instead… he made me read the newspaper with him every single morning and that was our fun… umm but that’s cool too, I’m just sayin… let your son know he’s got it good ![]()
A lot of the DJs from the 90s still DJ today. Why should it be any different for those dancing?
I was a student in Leeds around late 00’s and used to go out every weekend, back to basics and some of the better techno nights always had older seasoned ravers giving it some. Whenever I ended up at a night with old heads in the mix in Leeds, London, Bristol, Berlin wherever, it’s usually a guarantee that the music and vibe was going to be amazing.
I’m a lot more tired, mostly.
My old stomping grounds, but mid 90’s. Did you ever get to Orbit in Morley?
No but went to some of their reunion parties. Listened to loads of recordings of sets from the 90s must have been incredible
crazy how people think they cant go out and dance. Nobody cares, some people like it.
I lived for a long time in Argentina, Colombia, and Brazil, I would see people in their 50s and 60s dancing at electronic music parties, dressing up, its not a big deal at all. Rock clubs, goth clubs, techno clubs, disco, 80s dance nights. I would see highschool girls dancing, college guys, and old ladies and guys with grey hair dancing all together…
I also saw this in Romania in manele clubs as well. I used to go to some of the IFM / Cybernetic Disco parties in NL when I was like 25, and it was all older guys mostly in their 40s and 50s.
Its good exercise also, and an excuse to drink.
Do what you want brother!
There was a study recently that showed people who are ravers later in life tend to live 7-9 years longer on average.
Do it.

Day festivals are the answer, friends. My wife and I (46 & 47 respectively) swear by them. Good vibes, lots of options in terms of music and you can get your rave on in whatever way suits you and still be tucked up in bed by 1am. Bliss.
I’ve observed many times that the music on K soaked dancefloors is often oppressive because it’s the only way to break into peoples heads. Like cocaine it doesn’t belong on a dancefloor and diminishes the vibe.
Watching people on K is very funny though.
