Cyberspace online users here?

Oh cool! Had no idea about this!

so far, everything, I always hated the phpbb style forums, too much metadata on screen real estate and very poor ux, I like the lack of stats, counters, signatures, upvote/like systems etc., but eventually it’s all about the community, so let’s see where it goes, so far it’s pretty bare bones but has some interesting stuff from all kinds of topics and it’s very easy to mute a topic in whole.
pretty cool place, and they have a jukebox that aggregates all the music posted into one big playlist which is really lacking here especially on the sounds threads.

I gave it a try and created an account. Time will tell if it’s useful/interesting.

Hi @ DK_Domino. Thanks for sharing! I made this platform. It’s still an experiment and just over a month old, but I’m thrilled at the excitement over it. Working hard to make it a viable alternative to corporate social media.

As for people allergic to JS or WebGL for ideological reasons, there’s a terminal CLI client coming later. Native mobile apps too. Consider however that JS has been around for 30 years already, and WebGL for 14 years. Honestly I find it a bit boring that people are so quick to judge instead of trying it out and seeing what it has to offer that is different.

As for no crypto, this is not some pump and dump scheme, no token, no DAO, no Web3, and there’s no crypto discussion or features on the site. Not an NFT in sight. But it needs grassroots funding to be a viable project for me to continue to invest my time and resources into, since I won’t sell data or advertise (which is the whole point). Not everybody in the world has PayPal or Wise, so it would be a little myopic and uncharitable to say that accepting crypto donations is hypocritical. Most grateful for anything people are willing to give, in whatever form. Will build a Patreon style supporter system later, but Rome wasn’t built in a day, so it is what it is for now.

The other day I launched a jukebox feature to share music. At the moment just to YouTube as a proof of concept and UI/UX experiment, but will expand this to self hosted music later, and intend to eventually build in a way for musicians to sell their music like on Bandcamp but with a much better deal. I hope to see some of the music producers on this forum on there later ⌗(́◉◞à±Ș◟◉—⌗)

Send me a C-Mail on there if you have questions, feedback or ideas: https://cyberspace.online/genghis_khan/

Peace

lol whoa, i summoned the creator, and he is an gearhead !

thanks for making this site, i like it because I can use it like a whimsical journal and not feel pressure that need to generate likes.

would really love an android app someday !
Also maybe it would be cool if there was some kind of terminal access!

There’s full keyboard nav on the web app too, with either a up/down or j/k VIM preset, as well as full customisation, and a command palette to reach any page. There’s slash commands in the virtual IRC too.

Why is this platform closed? It’s incredibly frustrating that useful content is not findable in search engines anymore.

You can join with a fake email. Not requiring checking at the moment.
By default we don’t want to be fed into LLMs.
Upcoming feature is for users to choose which of their posts are public outside Cyberspace’s feed, like a blog or Substack.
That’d give you three layers of writing:

  1. Journal (private, eventually E2EE)
  2. Feed (all members inside Cyberspace, eventually also optionally open/closed “Spaces/neighbourhoods” inside Cyberspace)
  3. Public (outside Cyberspace, like a blog, with RSS)

Lol I actually did that. Hadn’t meant to and would’ve preferred to use one of my alts but since the example in the email field was showing a cyberspace domain, that’s what I used.

Unfortunately I can’t seem to change this to a real email unless I can verify the fake one first.

Looks great, thanks for sharing OP. Just signed up and had a look around on mobile. Will have more of a look later on a desktop. Totally my thing though, exactly what I want from a platform. Only thing I can think is collapsing to titles might help, not sure if that’s a setting somewhere.

edit: oh wow, it’s awesome on desktop, keyboards shortcuts to collapse/open and everything. fun

Signed up yesterday and so far this looks like a perfect modern take on an old BBS. Good vibes all around and loving the C64 theme.

No but if you think about it that should be rather obvious? I can’t change it either. Firebase auth prevents me as the admin to do anything to user auth objects other than disable or delete them.
C-Mail me on Cyberspace and I can delete your “fake” account to free up the username to recreate a proper one.
For now the only thing you can’t do if you haven’t verified your email is flag posts (to prevent spamming posts to get autobanned).

Nah, if it requires thinking then my brain has a tendency towards the less travelled path.

No big deal, but thanks for your offer. Ill prolly hit you up about it when Im back home in a few days.
