I have been trying to sequence the MS-20 Mini for the last couple of nights and have come close, but still haven’t been able to setup properly…
I only have 2 x mono 1/4 to 3.5mm cables, so I plug each cable into AB & CD using the setup below:
A - Gate
B - Ground
C - Pitch
D - Ground
Am I having problems because I need to be using one cable (that splits to tip / ring) in one port ? Or should the setup above technically work?
Very confused, because no matter what I can’t seem to get the MS-20 in tune over the entire octave range…
Any advice would be much appreciated, i’m sure all my other settings are ok, as i’ve read every other thread / piece of info in regards to the A4 and MS-20 that I can find, very new to CV though…
Thanks in advance…
i’ve only used trs plugs in my AF, but what you have suggested should work (at the expense of loosing two potential cv channels)
- maybe your tuning issue is that korg stuff works with the Hz/volt tuning whereas most other gear uses volt/octave - make sure you have CV C set up for that in your example ! keep those B & D channels grounded until you get a splitter cable !
Thanks for confirming that should work avan - I have now figured it out!
Anyone very new to CV who might stumble across this thread, using mono cables does work, though you sacrifice 2 CV ports.
I eventually tuned it across the entire octave range with an iPhone tuner app.
Start by selecting ‘Pitch Hz/V’ as type.
Tuning: With the tuning app open, press down C on the A4 mini keys and tune up until you get to as close as possible to C across the entire octave range.
Octave width: Go up or down, getting as close to C on average across the entire octave range.
Fine Tune (on main page): Go up or down, getting as close to C on average across the entire octave range. I managed to get a perfect C across the entire audible range.
This is what worked for me:
Tuning: 17
Octave Width: -4
Fine Tune: 29
hmmm, as i’d never had to experiment with the Hz/V i’d no idea it was so tricky to set up - so i see your original question from a different light now - having tried this with my monotribe set up to Hz/V I can say that I can get nowhere near to tuning it ! - does anyone have some magic numbers to get close !
you might find this thread useful too - seems to be some variability on those settings !

anyone also know what the A4 default (if any) were ?
[edit] the reason i couldn’t get the monotribe in tune with any settings was because you have to recalibrate the reference C4 & C5 pitch in the monotribe when you change both A4 and MT back and forth between V/oct & Hz/V ! doh !
FTR 32 & 32 work fine for me, no retuning on fine either
