So if i understand the file structure correctly. A project is essentially a song. But midi and CV settings do not get applied on a global scale and need to be set up for each project. This is kinda annoying to have to set up for every project as my setup isn’t changing. Is there anyway to have these settings carry over?
Make a template project that contains whatever settings/kits/sounds you want it to have. When making a new project, do so by saving a copy of the template project and editing the copy.
Thanks. I knew there had to be a way i just wasn’t thinking of.
Yeah…while the Elektron manuals do cover the machine’s features very well, it would be helpful if they also included a Recommended Workflows section or something like that.
They did upload some Workflow videos to the official Electron Youtube which are pretty good, and Cuckoo’s tutorials also provide some good workflow tips. I just got the Rytm and watched all of the above related to that machine, and I feel ten times more competent than I would have from reading the manual alone. Sometimes you just need a little sense of how all the details from the manual flow together in practice.
Oh, and by the way, a project doesn’t necessarily have to be a single song, and in fact if you are into performing live you will often want to have multiple songs in a single project because it gives you much more flexibility in transitioning seamlessly between songs. You can always compose the songs separately and merge them to a single project later, though.
Going to watch more tutorials today. The problem I’m finding with the official ones and I think the cuckoo ones is they get so much into on the fly creation and a kind of live improv going. Would be nice to see a more practical straight forward approach. Like working on a project or song over a longer duration of time and keeping things organized and being able to refine aspects. The live chaos tweaking thing is cool but when you want to produce a detailed/recreatable song with performance and scene adjustments it would be great to see that process…
It’s kinda funny watching the cuckoo one again he actually mentions how cenk keeps constantly changing things. Again very cool but from a learning perspective…hard to follow.
I could’ve sworn I discovered the settings were saved with the kit and not the project, but I might just be thinking of the actual knob settings and not the voltages.
At any rate I have a bunch of notes on my ipad detailing what to dial in for all my crap so it’s relatively painless at this point.
Also check out the videos by Seen from Space – he doesn’t go over outboard equipment except the Octatrack (I think) but he is relatively thorough in explaining his thought process.
