CV A4 mk2 --> Buchla 208C good idea?

I don’t know too much about this, but I know I don’t want to kill my Buchla easel.
I think there are interoperability-issues between a4 and Buchla.
I can use this adapter box

but… what about the chance to use wrong voltages and destroy my Buchla? How big is the risk and how much can I damage this Buchla with wrong CV ?

it shouldn’t be a concern. Buchla CV’s are 0-10V, but should be protected against negative volages. pulses are a 10V spike followed by a 5V sustained gate. the two main issues (from a how to do it perspective, not safety) are that not much outside of Buchla will generate that type of pulse, and that the scaling is 1.2V/octave instead of 1V/octave. I don’t know if the A4 will do 1.2V. I’d be amazed (and would probably buy one!) if it did the pulses properly.

edit: I should note that in my experience, you can still make use of 10V pulses from non-Buchla sequencers. but if you feed it into the envelope generator, you won’t have a sustain stage. can still be useful, just depends upon what you’re doing.

I am sorry for the gas

With my settings as displayed in my picture
Do i understanding right c2 will be -1,2v? And this will harm my buchla since it never uses minus volgages, right?

you can’t harm a 208 with negative voltages, only the 200e line

Nice
But…. Why is that?

the 200e has sensitive ADCs and MCUs that are not made to handle negative voltages only on the cv inputs. the 208c will handle negative voltages just fine up to the power rails (they just won’t do anything as it’s 0-10v standard). the 218e does not apply and can be damaged by negative voltages

So nice to get this crucial information :pray:

thanks for clarifying! I was going off my knowledge for 200e. don’t have 208 any more.

no worries! i hate to see people worried about their buchla instruments and it’s easy to get misinformed or confused
