Cutting the Open Hihat

Hello, I am new here and starting with basic question. I seen this before but can’t find it anywhere now in manual.

So I have hihat, and open hihat tracks, and I want to control wether or not closed hh cuts open hh from playing? You know, open hihat is loooong, and if closed hihat triggersm open hh stops playing too soon. Tried to explain it thoroughly :joy:

between some pads you see a few stripes. These show that both pads are in the same voice.

i.e. CH9 and CH10
if you use CH9 as an open HH, and CH10 as a closed HH, the open HH closes the moment you press CH10

it works like a ‘choke’

I hope it;s clear.

Thank you got it, and the term I didn’t remember was choke as you said!

Nice to know here is a live community for Elektron, because still in internet theres awfully little information about it, especially these new ones.

While I got you there, mind if I do few more questions so I don’t have to start new threads?

Can lets say hihat be assigned freely to lets say Bassdrum machine track, meaning is it possible to use hihat machine in multiple tracks? Lets say I want to use hihat sample on 5 tracks, does it play correctly on all ones?

Can I sequence midi from Rytm, as in use it more than a midi send clock? If so, and lets say I sequence 2 tracks, it uses 2 instrument tracks?

Hi, you can assign any sample you want to any track? The tracks with a line between will choke each other.
The Rytm can’t sequence external midi gear, just send and receive clock
Hope this helps

no & no - the manual is better than you think

but the manual contains a lot of music terminology that might be unclear for some beginners… and this can be forgotten by the old users.

No it is not actually. In my humble opinion :joy: Sorry if you think
Im misusing this forum.
To last poster, I am not a beginner. What I say, is
Elektron is most craziest thing to learn with its logic. Especially
Analog Four. I learned Tempest completely in few hours for example.
Well now I used few hours of Rytm and still much unclear.

use as you please, but both your questions ARE clearly covered in the manual, hey it ain’t no crime, enjoy, i have an OT manual and ask tonnes of questions

you can make very similar sounds to OH with the cymbal machine… the choke functionality is very useful in drum machines if you use it as a way to rhythmically gate sounds (eg. i use it to gate weird flams programmed with LFO).

i agree manual is not always very clearly written, but it does cover alot of ground.

Thanks good info, I forgot to mention ment samples, anyway used CB group for oh sample and everything fine now.
To the “was covered clearly in manual” guy, I think my “problem” is impatience as I hate reading manuals thoroughly, not that I haven’t tried to find answers there for various things.

In old times I would have just to learn it hard way, now I rather search internet for it but as I said before, I think this is only community in Elektron in internet, seriously.
Here is more questions if you feel bored. And, they will appear in Google search results anyway btw for next guy… Please use question number while answering.

  1. How to setup and configure Scenes? Meaning, how do I actually put parameters and which parameters to one scene?

2.Is it possible, like in Tempest, to do synth effects/parameters and affect all tracks in live performance without scenes?

  1. Is there a better way to load samples to pads from project samples, than using that overly sensitive upper right dial? I mean, you cant find them in sample manager, the PROJECT samples. Is there way to put them in something called “Pool”, and is that like best way to do it?

  2. Can I trigger patterns live any other way than Bank select-pattern number, meaning like from pads? In Tempest it was great to trigger patterns from 16 pads, although one of the reasons I changed it to this is that there were ALL-IN-ALL only 16 patterns/project!

  3. Concerning last question too, is there way other than stupidly small display, to see which pattern is playing? Like from light in pattern input led lane?

6- What means when I press Function-Page (Scale)? I wish it had something to do with patterns, but it reads something called “Scale”?

  1. What is easiest way to make chains? I mean other way than in manual?
Here is MY complaint/wishlist so far:

I wish there was separate Function functions on both sides of the apparatus, like in Tempest, its crazy good and tbh cripples Rytm in some ways, its actually revonutionary to dare to put 2 similar buttons twice somehow. Now copying and pasting have to be done with 2 hands, and actually taking other hand from Function button away pasteing pattern… I mean even in PC/Mac; copying and pasting is easier with one hand!
I wish it would be at least so, that if same pattern selected, at least it would copy it to next one.

Theres always undo. Also, I wish there would somehow be more than one level of undo.s.

Now, I know many are irritated that I compare this to different machine, and I know I will get used to Rytm every machine has it quirks, but it is my choice of drum machines.

So please don’t flame, I know if someone would talk trash about my -83 Toyota Corolla GT I would hate it

unfortunately im away from my AR at mo so cant double check so here goes from memory (im still learning too :P).

  1. click scene button to bring page, click +hold again but this time with pad and should go to a lighter blue colour. hold pad down and move paramter to value and u have a scene parameter lock. process is similar for configuring performance pads

  2. no tempest here, but i dont really get your question. AFAIK all send / return effects / comp can effect individual or all tracks, not sure why you think this is exclusively linked to scenes.

  3. again struggling to understand what you mean here.

  4. not AFAIK, unless you use an external midi input

  5. hold bank button and current pattern LED should light up.

  6. pattern length for either whole drum kit, or individual instruments (depending on settings).

  7. get your head round the above scale parameter, and chain kicks in at the end of master cycle. Not going to answer the copy paste button rant, doesnt bother me tbh.

  8. get a decent car :rage: :imp: :rage: <3

3 go to sample select, highlight the one in the pool you want to swap, press fn+yes

2 no, scenes or performance or possibly map params to say velocity, to get commonality, use Lemur (joke, it’d work, but it’s not for you)

1 manual

4 no, externally

5 as blip says, but hold lit bank button (1 of 4)

6 length of pattern in steps 2-64, common or individual

7 hold bank (1 of 4) then hold first in chain and then tap all the next ones in order, how much easier do you want it ?

8 it’s not a pc

9 multiple undo key combo is unlocked when the pdf detects you’ve read it 3 times

patience is a virtue

Why, do you think I am not proficient enough for Lemur? I do have an Ipad and lot of stuff in it, but I do not like it as control surface. Because it has to be plugged in and I have to think electric bill.

  1. I laughed almost as hard as when my grandma won me in Call of Duty :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

And, patience is overrated, it ruins the world!

it involves reading, and patience  it’s highly recommended though, very powerful !
