Custom paintjob and knobs for Digitakt II

I recently disassembled the front panel on my new Digitakt II, did this custom paintjob with acrylic markers and replaced the stock knobs with these beautiful gold-colored ones from Thonk. The acrylic markers are Posca, and the knobs are linked in the video description (they fit the Digitakt, Digitone, and Syntakt). Music by yours truly:

Any photos?

In the end all that matters is that you are happy with your machine and inspired towards creativity, I would have personally waited a bit longer to void the warranty though.

Sure, here you go!

(For some reason, I had to recreate my account, so I can only attach one picture per post—more pictures below)

This reminds me of the title screen for the game One Must Fall 2097.

Don’t normally like custom paint jobs though this looks great, well done :+1:

I normally don’t like overlays and special editions that are departure from minimalistic design. They usually cripple the usability, making it unreadable.

But then there is your job, which looks like nothing was crippled, but also makes it more pleasant to look at. And that makes it more worth it - I truly would choose this look over standard one. How you managed that is impressive.

Cordially,
Norman

Is the gold volume knob with the line a different shade than the encoders?

Also, these look to be 6mm and the Elektron pots are 6.5mm, no? The exposed silver threading underneath is less than ideal for debris?

Love the idea but are there better parts available?

How our we ever going to make any music when alongside distractions of buying gear we have distractions of making it pretty? Love this so much and would probably pay for it as a service.

Yes, their shade is a tiny bit different. They look the same on the Thonk website, though, so I’m not sure mine was a weird occurrence.

As for the size, these ones fit the stem quite nicely. They do stop a bit short of the front panel, as you mention. Thonk sells other knobs, like these ones I used on the Digitone (they are a bit more fiddly to install, however, and do require brass adaptors):

Thanks for the reply. Could you use the regular gold encoders on the volume pot for a uniform look? Any differences between them? Nice job btw.

Yes, you can. The shaft is the same for all knobs, so no need to choose a particular one for the volume knob.

Thanks!
