I was invited to play at this online event (swamp festival) and had 1 week to come up with something. Made most of it in the last few days but decided to also use some drums I had programmed last year in the Electribe ESX-1. And 22:30 - 24:00 is a bit from an unreleased track.
70% digitakt, 20% esx1, 10% sh-4d.
Launchpad is for FX only. Bitwig only for recording and some EQ.
Just wanted to share a project that sits at the intersection of science history and ambient electronic music.
My new album, “The Sound of Nobel Laureate Research”, is now out on Bandcamp and streaming platforms. It’s a data-driven LP where each track maps the career timeline, publication history, and citation impact of a world-shaping researcher (including the 2025 Nobel Prize winners).
The initial tracks were generated using Sonimet (https://sonimet.kennebec.co.uk/), a browser-based tool we built that pulls academic data from OpenAlex and translates it directly into MIDI. I then brought those MIDI layouts into Ableton and produced them using only Sonic Charge’s Synplant and Microtonic
If you’re interested, you can check them out here:
Try the Web Tool:https://sonimet.kennebec.co.uk/ (you can search for any researcher—or even yourself—to hear their publication history sonified in real-time).
Created a slow evolving loop on the Sonicware Ambient0, and then I put it into the TV. Three tracks use that loop - one as a regular one-shot, and two using grainer. Fourth track is a multi-sampled generic synth pad. That’s all - just four tracks.
