DT2->AHFX

Was looking on YouTube about AH + fx, and AH in general, and one of your videos popped up with mk2 version(it was 3 years ago).
Do you still use it as end of chain, and if not why so?
Proper question is do you get all compression/saturation in the box or with external gear?

I borrowed the mk2 in my video from a friend. I had the mk1 for a while before this, but ultimately sold it to fund a much needed new laptop.

I liked the sound of it, but it was a luxury item for me. I could get similar (to my ears) results with plugins. At the time I had very little desk space and power outlets, so using it meant not using another piece of gear. It was also hard for me to use it in a hybrid setup where the Digitakt was sequencing plugins: overbridge had too much latency for performing live. Skipping overbridge and just sending audio over usb to the AH to process alongside the audio coming in from its L/R inputs added a delay between the two audio sources. I don’t remember exactly the routing, BUT running two instances of FL Studio, one tied to the AH and one to the DT gave me the lowest overall latency but was too much of a hassle.

Oh, I just reread your post. The AH mk1 and mk2 wasn’t enough as the only end of chain device. I used it as a pseudo compressor and loved the saturation, but it didn’t compress like my go to compressor plugin MJUC. Neither did its EQs do it for me like Maximus did (it’s a multiband expander, so completely different tool, but I used it like an EQ) . And I couldn’t use it as a limiter. Also, my go to saturation plugin Phoenix satisfied my saturation needs. It didn’t sound like an AH, but I liked the character enough. I did like having a physical device in my end of chain, but the AH mk1 and mk2 weren’t enough on their own. I’ve been eyeing the AH+FX ever since it came out, though!

Yeah i kinda feel the same way, especially since i have really nice plugins already. But wanted something without turning my PC on.

Yeah i kinda was expecting this type of answer. I am also very much dependent on a good sidechain option, limiter and eq i can only have in a daw at the moment.

Ok good to know. I have something to think about.
Thank you for your answer. Definitely gonna rethink how to approach this.
Maybe this new Overbridge on ipad can be a good solution. Though even there will be some latency for sure.
Maybe i should also look into Otto Boum(i think that’s how it’s called) or some other similar option
