I just bought a second hand analog four and have been really impressed with the possibilities this synth has added to my setup and breathed new life into my cv gear. I kept thinking the sound just didnt sound as good as the demos I’d been hearing though and downloaded cuckoos presets for the analog keys to compare and have to say they sound in the same kind of ballpark but stil quite a lot different (not just the small differences that i would expect with analog equipment). My analog seems to distort quit a lot and sounds a lot duller and for lack of a better description sounds less lush. I can get dirty sounds from the synth quite easily but anything like nice lush chord or pad sounds just dont seem to work well at all.
Not sure if its related but i notice i get a little bit of an electric shock when i touch the metal screws on the top panel as well… kinda think i bought a dud but really hoping i havent
Guess really i just need to find out how much of a difference their usually is between one analog 4/keys and another usually?
Might be obvious but have you checked what OS version your on and upgraded to latest? There were some filter changes made a few versions back that might explain the difference you are hearing…
hey chad,
Yeah i tried playing with fx settings to get them as close as possible to the demos etc and think i’m finding that its the tone of the filter that seems to be really off in comparison
Sorry to hear that your A4 “sounds” dull. My main concern would be the part about the case shocking you. If you are experiencing a shock other than a simple static discharge (common to those who live in particularly dry regions), you need to have the unit checked out, or better yet, returned to the original owner for a refund. If there is an internal short, this “could” be affecting the sound. It may also be something else but I’d address the more serious problem first.
