I’ve just got my Digitakt and have decided to try and recreate a few beats I like as projects to get started. First off I’m trying this live Radiohead performance where Thom and Johnny use a CR78: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ti6qhk3tX2s
I’ve got some nice Cr78 samples and have managed to get the kick, snare and conga or bongo (not sure which it is) sequenced correctly and sounding pretty good. This hi-hats however are presenting me with a problem. I can’t get the accent to sound right. I’ve tried changing velocity, note, length, end but can’t seem to get anything that sounds similar.
My question would be: How would you achieve this on the Digitakt?
I would experiment with the filter and resonance and then work the envelope to taste. Also, a sharp end point on the amp envelope. I would also mess with setting the LFO to “tune” with a tiny rate and slow speed. I can’t guarantee this will get you close but either way they’re all solid techniques I’ve found for dialing in hi hat sounds. Good luck.
Thanks so much for the replies. Learnt a lot and really enjoyed Oscillator sinks video. I’ve managed to get good results by finding some more cr78 samples which included a sample of of the accented hi hat, this got me closer. I’ve got the norma high hat and accented one on different tracks so just changed AMP Volume on the accented one a bit and it’s fairly close now.
I sometimes set the lfo to amp or filter and set to trigger half waveform with a ramp then turn the trig off for the part and parameter lock it back in for certain steps. You can the use the lfo depth like the accent knob on an old Roland.
