Could use some help setting up analog four with Roland tb-303

Did anybody try this before? I usually run midi to CV via a Kanton converter, i have never set it up directly like this before

Do you want to synch them via DIN synch, or does your 303 have CV/gate inputs that you wanna coltrol from the A4?

I dont really know about these things, i tried to connect the Elektrons CV to the 303s CV but i guess it wasnt that simple:s

Factory tb303 doesn’t have cv in if I recall correctly. Only cv out.

the TB-303 doesn’t have a CV in, unless you’ve had a Devilfish mod or a Kenton retrofit.

I use my Devilfish all the time with my A4, got the MIDI Thru set to Sync 24 (all rolands use that) to have it in time,

I could use an A4 track to sequence the 303, but that defeats the whole purpose of a 303! it’s the sequencer along with a couple of things that make it!

I would really really really like Elektron to have a clock divisible MIDI out/Thru, I’m currently going through a phase of writing DnB with a 303 on top of the bassline as a counterpoint, but as you can imagine beyond 165bpm it gets a little too cluttered. So if you could half time it, that would be excellent!

A way round it is using an OT to sample it and then half time, but I haven’t gotten around to trying that

So. i dont want to sequence the 303 from a A4 track, i just want to sync it! Wintermute, do you mean that the A4 can do this? Or do i need to go back to my Kenton to convert the signal to DIN sync again?

The a4 can clock the 303 as is. Check your midi settings. If you want to control the 303 via cv you will need a conversion kit/box.

Just fired up my A4 to check:
Hit function + global then go into Midi config, then Midi port config you should see both the Thru and Out options. Set whichever one you want to use as DIN24 (not DIN48 as that’s for Korg machines and will make your 303 play twice as fast)
And their you go! I can’t remember if you have to do this every time you change a project or not, but not hard to do!
And remember to use a DIN cable, not a MIDI one! easy to get them mixed up (so all my DIN cables are a different colour)
