I’m interested in trying out the Yamaha Reface CS. Annoyingly, the synth is not velocity sensitive when played standalone, but it sends velocity data, and responds to velocity data (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gFYUTidOggc).
Could I send note and velocity data from the Reface CS out to the Digitakt (1 or 2), and then map the velocity data to control note, volume and filter cutoff back on the Reface CS?
Or would I need a standalone midi processor like the Blokas Midihub to achieve this?
Maybe, or a computer, but at that point shouldn’t you just purchase a keyboard which is sensitive to it’s own internal velocity?
The amount of cost, setup and hassle of purchasing and programming an external device and then using midi loopback just for this kind of basic functionality which is available by default in other comparably priced devices sounds ill advised.
If it’s your dream synth then yes, it’s probably possible, but velocity is part of the note packet data, it’s not a CC, so keep that in mind. You need a device which can specifically modify velocity data and turn it into CC data, not just something which can remap CC data into other CC data.
they said use velocity data to control note, volume, and filter cutoff back to the reface cs.
you might be able to turn local off and get velocity data back into the synth (which according to yamaha the CS can respond to velocity for note on messages), but you still could not modify velocity data into anything other than velocity data.
