Copy individual pattern

Hi there, new analog rytm owner here - nice to meet you all!

Im having trouble working out how to copy and paste individual patterns. For example, i have my complete groove on pattern A16 and i want to just copy the hi hats to pattern A1. The manual says…

“Individual sequencer tracks can be copied, pasted and cleared in the same way as patterns. To do so, GRID RECORDING mode needs to be active”

This doesn’t help me much - I’ve tried it but i just can’t figure it out. Any help would be great. Thanks

Hi and nice to meet ya too.

So it sounds like you’re talking about copying individual tracks within a pattern, not individual patterns, just to clear up the terminology.

So you want to you want to copy the hats track from A16 to A1. Go to pattern A16 and make the hat track active. Activate grid record (press record so that the red light is solid), hold down the function key, and then press “record” (secondardy function is “copy”). You’ll see text saying “copy track”. Then switch to pattern A1 and keep grid mode active; you’ll also still have the hi hat track active if you haven’t switched tracks. Hold down the function button and press “play” (secondary function is “copy”). You’ll see text saying “paste track” and your hat will now be in the new pattern.

Now to copy and paste whole patterns and all the tracks within, you do the same procedure but without activating any record mode.

Ahh, thats sorted it - thank you very much! Copy for other things doesn’t require the FUNCTION button - thats what was throwing me.

What the manual should say is…

“individual sequencer tracks can be copied, pasted and cleared in the same way as patterns. To do so, GRID RECORDING mode needs to be active. However, as GRID RECORDING mode is active and therefore the record button is in use, the FUNCTION button must be used to access the COPY command.”

The joys of an Elektron User Manual!

i respectfully disagree - the function button is explicitly the ‘shift’ key for all red under-labelled commands - those that don’t require function to improve workflow are the exception to the rule - besides there are copy commands you CAN do whilst the grid recording mode is active that don’t require function - anyway, welcome : )

Is there a way to copy a pattern from a single track? I want to layer a few tracks and this would be much quicker than recreating the same pattern on a separate track. I’d have to keep changing track to check the micro timing of each trig. I’ve checked the manual and checked a reference sheet I downloaded off here a while ago but can’t find anything.

If anyone can help, thanks in advance.

whilst in Step Edit Mode …

Fn + Copy (whilst in source Track)
Fn + Paste (when in destination Track)

Thanks. For some reason I thought that copied the sound not the pattern. Sorry!! :flushed:
