Controlling note on/note off on DT2 from Nord Drum 3P

Hi everybody,

I’m in a live situation playing a drum kit with my Nord Drum 3P and Digitakt 2. I want to launch looped samples on DT via MIDI notes from the big and robust pads on the Nord. The fact that I am playing drums simultaneously makes using faders or controllers pretty unlikely.

Here’s the tricky part: As I understand it, all the MIDI I can send from ND3P are just notes, and I have 6 of them, freely chosen. Can you think of a way that I can alternate between launching a looped sample on DT and stopping it just by sending said MIDI notes from ND3P? It would be a similar function to MPC’s note on/off mode for pads.

I’ve experimented with triggering a PRE track on DT with a note number from ND3P, but the conditionals only work with actual programmed trigs on DT, not with incoming MIDI notes, afaikt. Could I do something clever with volume, perhaps?

Let me know if something really smart hits you, and I’ll keep praying for choke functions between tracks on DT.

(Edited for clarity)

I had one idea: I could find a fitting velocity curve for the track with the looped sample on DT, and then I could “mute and unmute” the track by hitting a pad very quietly, and afterwards at full velocity. I’ll try this today!
