Hello, I’m seriously considering buying an analog4 to complete my live setup but I ran into an issue yesterday when trying a friends Octatrack/analog4 setup. I’ve searched the forum a bunch but haven’t really found a solid answer on this specific question. . .
I am wondering if its possible to change patches on the Analog4 via program change messages on the Octatrack. I tried yesterday to no avail.
I do this with my other 2 synths, a prophet 08 and a Juno 106, w ease. I can scroll through patches on both synths from the octatrack til I find a sound that works for the tune. (though I am still annoyed that changing patterns won’t send new program changes (patch changes) to the synths. Instead, I have to change banks, or parts but I’ve not gotten too deep into parts yet)
anyway, I noticed that when we tried doing that on the analog4 nothing happened. We had program changes set to send and receive appropriately on both machines.
If this is possible then I would like to go a step further and change patterns AND patches on the analog4 when I change patterns or banks on the Octatrack.
I have the same question as the OP. I want to change the SOUND - NOT the pattern via the OT. It seems you can only change the patterns via program change.
Is there any way to change the SOUNDS of the A4 via program change or MIDI or something?
if you mean ‘load sounds into a track’ - no. I’d say it’s technically not possible.
a4 parameter (and sound) setups are saved as kits. each pattern is assigned a kit. so, if you want to load new sounds, create a new pattern, link the desired kit to the pattern and load the pattern.
I reckon it should be quite easy. There are 128 sounds in the pool, perfect for MIDI Program Change commands. Sending a PC command on the track-specific channels (1-4 by default) could load a sound from the pool into that synth.
We can manually load a sound from the pool into a synth slot in a kit. Why not remotely as well ?
I’m surprised it’s not implemented already, it seems such an obvious thing.
It should even be feasible to load sounds from the +Drive, using Bank Select and Program Change commands.
