Thinking about getting a Digitakt as addition to the TR8S. Would it be possible to make use of the sequencing capabilities of the Digitakt (e.g. trig conditions) for the drums of the TR8S? And also to map some controls in order to automate the tuning parameters or effects of the TR8S.
Yes and yes. The TR8S instruments are mapped to midi notes and all the front panel controls respond to midi CC.
ok, cool! that would make a TR8S with superpowers.
what about the max number of tracks/instruments that can be controlled? Do 8 Midi tracks of Digitakt equal 8 controllable tracks/instruments of TR8S?
So by default the instruments in the TR-8S are all on the same midi channel - they’re mapped to different notes on that channel.
Assuming you can have multiple midi tracks on the DT set to the same channel, you can sequence all the instruments simultaneously by using chords where necessary - though it makes things a bit tricky, what with everything using the same velocity on the same step etc - but yeah, it can be done.
You can do that.
so to have it nice and clean I would group instruments to one midi track, which do not play at the same time.
That would be one way to do it, yes. You don’t really have to do any strict grouping or anything though, just play different notes on different tracks.
