You cannot assign the crossfader to tempo.
You can assign cross fader to pitch. (Or rate if using time stretch)
‘Send to a flex buffer’ indicates a misunderstanting of octatrack architecture.
Flex machines and static machines play samples. They do not record. They do not have buffers.
The difference is that flex machines can play samples from the flex slots and recorder buffers. Static machines can only play samples from the static slots (streamed from the SD card)
This all sounds complicated. It isnt. It just takes a long time to explain.
3 layers.
Recorder tracks x 8. Independent.
Audio trackx x 8. Independent.
Midi tracks x 8. Independent.

Makes sense. My question would be how would I route incoming live audio so I can timestretch with the crossfader?
Not sure about what you want to achieve but it is possible to record audio with a rec trig, play with Flex and apply timestretch with RATE assigned to crossfader (RATE = TSTR mode, TSTR on).
Slow down only, unless you change the tempo after recording.
32 is half speed.
The problem can be the Flex trigs, they need microtiming to play “directly”, and the way they retrigger the recording slowed down.
Do I understand correctly that your question is-

The answer to that question is no. you cannot time stretch live audio.
If your question is, ‘how to I capture (aka record, or sample) live audio, and then time stretch it?’
This is easy, set up a track recorder to record chosen source, have a flex machine play back that sample (after it has been recorded) and use the rate knob, or assign cross fader to rate knob.
Yes that’s what I was trying to say earlier about using flex machines. Obviously you can’t time stretch live audio, so I was trying to wrap my head around sampling in real time and messing with stretching and pitching that. I’ll give it a shot, thanks.

And you can pitch shilft live audio in TSTR mode.
IIRC at 120 bpm you need at least +7 microtiming values for the Flex playback of buffer during its recording.
If a flex machine is playing back recorded audio- it isnt live audio.
For me it is definitely live audio.
Processed buffer during recording with 1.5 ms latency for audio AB/CD inputs. (Around 5 ms for SRC3, 35 ms for timestretch.)
Would be more questionable with finished recordings, but Flex can slow down, pitch up, reverse, pitchshift and timestrech audio while buffer is recording…
(Of course you have to slow down before pitch up or reverse…)
Btw I also consider using finished recordings mangling as live audio processing, for example if you record with 2 alternated buffers one step each you can get 1 step late reverse or pitch up. Example with AB inputs, feels like live audio processing to me !
And you can resample live with feedback !
Many live fx use audio buffers. Unless Aren’t delays, reverb, pitchshifter etc aren’t live audio fx ?

Thanks. I got it all working last night. There is some gain staging trickery that has to happen for sure. I went by ear there. Volume at 127 of course, I remember that rule. I forget what I tweaked but I got a good sound after a while. Pretty much everything in the mixer at zero.
I may use the ot twice on a track. One for samples that I will jam in real time and record and then send the entire mix through it and jam out transitions. I sometimes used the Transit plugin for this in the past but for whatever reason I got cooler and weirder results with the OT last time I had one, I think some of it is just crossfader manipulation in real time plus I’ll sit with hardware and spend hours with it while I rarely do that with plugs.
Anyway, moving my studio soon so a lot of this is just experimenting for how I want to set it up again. That’s a story for another thread I would think - interface/mixer/patchbay routing. I know how I want to route but it’s the layout and cable management I really want to get better with.
Intermittent Model:Samples func glitching the last couple of weeks. Is there a smartguide how to most effectively migrate between M:S => Digitakt => Octatrack , what not todo and what to do. Or is it smartest to start with your old samples and work on the new machines

That might have some challenges due to sample rates and slice functionality. I treat my M:S as a supplement to my Octatrack, so I’ve never worried about migrating.
