Consider to get a Digitone 2

Hi, I’m considering to get A Digitone 2 but would like some opinions on the quality control/user experience. I have not own any Elektron product so this will be my first if i ever get it. I’m aware of how capable the Digitone 2 is feature wise but not the quality control and user expierence. Now i think is a good time to gather some opinions since it has been out for a year+.

Since the Digitone 2 is not cheap(at least to me) and Elektron products are not sold locally in my country, I have to get it from Thomann. Warranty / return isn’t convennient if anything happens.

Through my research, I have found some quality control concerns(Screen lines, sticky buttons, faulty led etc). So, could any one share their experience on owning it and would you recommend it if so?

Thanks

I think warranty/return is very good at Thomann. 30 days money back policy if you don’t like it and 3 years warranty. I don’t think it gets much better than that. Wouldn’t this still apply to your location?

I have had no problems with mine and I haven’t heard much of others with these problems. I had my Digitone 1 for more than 5 years and sold it for a good price when DN 2 came out. It did have a bit sticky buttons in the end but not anything that caused problems.

Amazing machine really, if you want to work with synthesis.

Yea, my experience with Thomann is great(where I bought my MPC Key 37). Did you do anything to fix the sticky buttons?

It’s mature and solid.
Extremely capable.
Sounds really great.
Lots of corners to explore, so you’ll still discover aspects in a couple years.

No, it wasn’t that bad and didn’t get worse. Would’ve gotten a button replacement at Elektron if it had gotten worse.

Did you encounter any quality control issues? Buttons not working as intended etc. ?

Maybe I was just lucky. I had dn1 and dt1, now I have dn2, dt2, Syntakt, and tonverk. I’ve NEVER had any hardware issues or defects. My Digitone is perfect. I didn’t get it from Thomann, but I’ve gotten a lot of other stuff from them over the years, and I think they work great.

Thomann returns are easy.

As for warranty, that’s normally down to Elektron as the manufacturer. It doesn’t matter where you bought it originally.

Elektron products seem pretty solid, apart from their buttons being made from that rubber-coated plastic that eventually goes sticky.

They do sell replacement buttons. Not the cheapest, but… you can get them.

Overall … I’d say they’re as reliable as anything else out there, and resale value is good.

I have had a test unit since a few months before the launch, and there were only software bugs, now all addressed.
The hardware seems very reliable and solid, to me.
It’s my favorite synth and groovebox.

Good to know, thanks :+1:

Thanks for your opinion :raised_hands:

This is a great machine – I asked exactly the same question here about half a year ago.

Since I had no experience with FM, I had a lot of respect for it at first. But thanks to the really helpful advice I got here in the forum, I’m managing quite well now – and I’m honestly surprised at what you can get out of it.

My go-to groove box.

At the beginning, I didn’t really like the harsh, metallic sound of the presets. But the Elektron workflow makes it so easy to change that. There are some excellent controls for shaping the sound.

Have fun with it, and give yourself a bit of time.

If there is a quality control problem you can just return it.

Use experience is phenomenal. My music making accelerated 10 times (really, i rendered 150 songs in 13 months with it). I do use it also to control other synths and play it with a keyboard. Tracking in DAW via OB. Such a fun setup and the Digitone constantly surprises me with its versatility sound-wise.

My experience with Thomann is great. Almost all my stuff comes from them. Never had an issue. Regarding the DT, I also never had any issue with an Elektron device. As fas as the sticky button thing, I dread the idea, but I don’t have my gear for that long so I cannot comment on the long term (plus I’m very careful with it comes to dirt, grease, sunlight, etc). Digitone is a great device, very versatile…I haven’t even begun exploring all it’s possibilities.

Had mine for 4 months now after buying a syntakt and a digitakt 2

It’s phenomenal in short and surpasses my previous synths from elektron

It really is that good ,expect some learning curve but once you’ve got the knack you’ll probably never look back
