In order to connect (and sync) an A4 with a RYTM, what exactly do I need to buy, cables-wise?
At least 1 midi cable.
For sync: One midi cable
For audio: Two instrument cables
Hi. My first post here, but I just got these units and here’s how I do it.
For me, the A4 is the clock and transport master, and the Rytm slaves to it via MIDI. I use a single MIDI cable from the OUT port on the A4 to the IN port on the Rytm. I then enabled the Clock Send and Transport Send on the A4 and the Clock Receive and Transport Receive on the Rytm. All of those settings can be found under the MIDI config menus. I also disabled Note Receive and Sysex/NRPN Receive on the Rytm to avoid inadvertently having the A4 play or change Rytm kit sounds.
Now, when you press Play and Stop on the A4, the Rytm will also respond and have exactly the same tempo as the A4.
I also use 1/4 audio cables to connect the Rytm’s L/R outputs to the inputs on the A4. In order to hear the Rytm, you’ll need to select the FX track and bring up the Ext input levels. This is not required if you have an external mixer, but by doing it this way you can hear both units with a single pair of headphones plugged in to the A4.
I do have one issue in Song mode - if I try to start a song in the middle of the arrangement, it works on the A4 but the Rytm always starts from the beginning. This is true even if I manually change the start point of the song on the Rytm. Would love to hear if anyone knows why.
for audio best way is to use a single TRS cable from headphone out of a4 into rytm. This is much louder then using an insert cable from A4 main outs. And it needs to be a lot louder because rytm in is super low. Headphone out is much hotter on A4.

Analog Rytm super low? Sounds strange to me, but I guess it’s subjective.
