I was talking about the loud noise online around this currently Jerk, lol. I know you know your stuff  it was a joke about how brutal it was to play NES games. I’d agree tho it was the continues that were tough. 3 lives for a whole game :joy:

Oh, I know, just mentioning that specific runback again with disdain.

And last night, I got to a secret boss pretty much at the same time as both of my daughters that are playing alongside me. My youngest beat it in a few tries. The older one beat it after maybe 30-40 minutes. I was still stuck on it after maybe and hour or two, and decided to take a break. Going back for my revenge today. It’s funny, there are bosses that I beat first try that give either kid trouble. Then there are bosses that they walked right through that I get stuck on for hours. (I’m still the platforming master of the house though…)

Looking forward to diving back in this weekend!

next moves

I have Sinners Road and the windy place to the left as my two next options.

Just finished most of your next moves. The boss I mentioned just above your post is in there. One thing I will say is there is more in that area than appears. And with that, I shall shut up.

Edit: Finally beat that jerk. Well into Act 2 now.

One little non-spoily tip. There is a secondary weapon that you can find (one that goes on the floor). Highly recommend that for the rooms that close that are full of enemies.

Okay, I tried Scanner Sombre again, and it’s unplayable for me even without a headache. I mean, it’s just super uncomfortable for my eyes and brain. Shame, since the game seems to be great, but I can barely endure a minute at a time.
Does anyone else have this issue?

Bomb Rush Cyberfunk on Steam I’ve enjoyed this for couple of days now. Very hip hop.

Inside was brilliant but pretty short. INSIDE on Steam

Just finished the Trails in the Sky demo, really enjoyed it, looking forward to the release in a few days.

I’m just getting into sim racing (ordered a cheap wheel & pedals to try for my Xbox), and I’m really surprised how much fun, calm and depth this brings to me - especially as a counterweight to my stressful work. Assetto Corsa Competizione is my favourite at the moment for road racing, Dirt Rally 2.0 is my rally experience of choice.

Anyone else into it? Planning on upgrading my wheelbase (after a week :joy:) to something like the VRS DFP15 or VNM DirectDrive Elite. Gear heavy hobby too, just saying…

Yup, used to play a lot of rfactor and both assetto corsas :). Don’t have a direct drive wheel though, just a T300 but it’s more than enough for me for now

Thinking of picking up a set of VR goggles to get back into sim racing

rFactor 2 I want to get into as well
I have that same wheel (TX, mechanically the same) and it’s great but given how much fun I have with it, I am already craving the upscale experience.
Re VR: I just bought a Meta Quest 3 for that use case. I have a RTX5090 build for work, so I’m imagining driving it from that. Quest 3 is apparently the best value for money combo still, Pimax Crystal Light is the other one, but I don’t like their pricing model (you pay for the headset and then again some 249€ for the right to use it ). I suspect a triple monitor setup will ultimately be similarly immersive, but without the risk of motion sickness while also way less GPU intensive if run in 1440p.

My wife and I must be so bad !

Not a single boss we beat in less than ten tries !

I did not, that’s really unfortunate that you did :frowning: I really liked the way the game looked and how you discover the terrain, very unique.

I used to get motion sickness from some other games my friends were totally fine with, so I can definitely feel the pain…

This reminds me how I used to come home from the factory and fire up Euro Truck Simulator 2 to wind down, driving on European roads to the whisper of rain.

Yeah I remember getting it from Quake 3, but back then I got used to it quickly. Looks like these 25 years haven’t made me any younger.

Yup, since the very early days of Geoff Crammond’s F1 GP series, played on Amiga!

Nowadays I’m mostly on Le Mans Ultimate and Automobilista2, but I had a blast with both Assettos and many other sims before. As the Gas is strong in this hobby as well, I’m on a full alu profile rig with Fanatec gear, haptics and due to space limitations I drive essentially only in VR.

As a former trackdays ā€œregularā€ -and car enthusiast- IRL I’m still stoked by how much closer to the real experience sims and hardware have come. And they seems to get better faster and faster. It is really a good time to be a simmer!(flying sims also got amazing, especially in VR)

The bosses on these games are completely counter to how I’ve always played in just about ever other game I’ve played (short of maybe Souls games). They require you to learn their patterns, and then take your time with them. Patience REALLY pays off on most of the bosses on these games unless you get every ounce of powerups you can find before you fight them (when that’s an option).

Getting a few swipes in, then getting some distance between you and the boss, and learning when and where in the boss ā€œarenaā€ you can heal is critical. So you have to be really methodical. Even then, there some that play a bit differently, and many still require practice.

I have four bosses right now that I’ve been completely avoiding, finding anything else I can do in order to procrastinate. I just got another spool and another mask though last night (the procrastination paid off) and now I’m going to go back and hit a couple of those bosses.

The game is hard, no question, but it’s MOSTLY fair. There are occasionally some seemingly cheap boss maneuvers, I will grant that. I spent three hours on one boss earlier in the game. So maybe 30-40 tries. So that definitely does happen. The game is so good though, it makes me actually ok with that. Maybe not while I’m yelling at the game, but once I finally beat those sticky bosses, it feels good.

I still love Q3A. I don’t have anyone to play with anymore, but I occasionally crank up the bots, and walk through all the levels. Maybe once every few years. I did it on a flight to Japan recently, and it was a blast. I’m probably not at the level where I could hop onto a Quake Live server and play well enough, but I think I could still do pretty well in a ā€œfriendly matchā€ if I could get some of my old friends to play again.

First boss who told me patience has been the fourth chorus. There are some moment when you just can’t really get a hit opportunity for some time and some other when you can stab it three times in a row.
For the moment, we’ve been avoiding the ā€œcrows arenaā€. I don’t know if we are stuffed correctly for where we are because we’re still, base life and throwing knife only. ( we have 2 slots in each colour of the start emblem though and we have a second one.) Currently at the mantis arena.

The crest found in bone bottom is the one I use to play. I find that style more comfortable, (having put hundreds of hours into Hollow Knight over the years). The muscle memory just fits better for me. If you find the moveset from Hollow Knight more comfortable, I’d suggest finding that. It requires a key.

One of my daughters plays with the default crest, and other than not finding as many secret areas as me, is a bit further along than I am, and seems to do better with some of the bosses that I have some trouble with.

My other daughter actually uses a third crest that’s kind of in between that is slower, but lands heavier blows. It suits her play style more, and she’s also just ahead of where I am.

(both of them have more disposable time than me  )

So the crests really do play into how one prefers to play this sort of game, and seem to be equally effective in the right hands. I can’t actually imagine playing the whole game with either of the ones my daughters are using right now, and neither of them like the one I use. There’s a fourth one that I have access to now (but haven’t gotten) that also seems like it would come in handy on occasion. I just need to go back and get it from the character that’s offering it. (though this one doesn’t look like something that I’d use by default, just for occasional use)

I generally just use the items that recover silk more and faster, and explore every corner of every location to try and upgrade spools and masks. My youngest daughter likes to explore more like I do, so between us hitting every suspect wall and ceiling in the game we’ve found quite a few new locations, hidden items, etc.
