It’s laptop upgrade time. My trusty 2013 MacBook Pro is starting to struggle and won’t go further than MacOS 11. It’s an 8gb i5 512 SSD. I’m looking for at least 16gb 512 or 1TB SSD.
M3 prices are pretty eye watering for this spec, approx £2000. I found a 2021 Apple MacBook Pro 14-inch M1 Pro 16GB 512GB for £1195 refurbished, or probably about £100 less if I risk eBay.
That should give me enough performance bump to run Ableton etc for a few years right?
I might alternatively look at an M2 air for around the same price. I would miss out on some ports, bigger speakers and an inch of screen - anything else by not getting the pro?
[edit] reading more of the above, perhaps 8gb M1/M2 is enough for my needs?
