I joined the forum and seems they are up to April 2018. I’m going to get a paper round and save ten bob a week. By the time my name comes up I’ll be quids in.
Want to swap places to give you more time to save up. Im October 2019
I couldn’t possibly impose.
August 2021 here. If the whole world hasn’t combusted before then, I guess I’ll see y’all in 2025.
Gosh darned, the Cirklon bug bit me again.
It’s so difficult determining if this would be an absolute overkill for me.
Most of the discussion around it is mostly “is it worth it?” and “yes, it is if you need it”
It would be cool to hear how getting one has changed your music making.
Has it been the kind of upgrade creatively you had in mind? Even better? How?
Also, are you using it to sequence Elektron gear and if so what are the biggest benefits?
In what way? Enough to buy one that appears on the secondhand market, or enough to send an email to get on the waiting list for a new one?
The thing is, most of the factors involved in whether a Cirklon (or any piece of gear, for that matter) would “change your music making” are in you and your music, not in the properties of a piece of hardware.
So take a hard look at the Cirklon’s features in comparison with other sequencers you might be considering
and consider your needs and what options the Cirklon can provide:
Thank you! Believe me I have read those threads but they haven’t provided me with the user experience enough for me to make any real conclusions.
You’re right about the effort put into a piece of gear vs the benefits but as these matters are so broad and these devices are so deep its hard to predict how it would work for ones particular way of making music.
I have gotten some perspective from the tutorials on YT but still it would be nice to hear from ppls own experiences it being pretty expensive and all.
I don’t own a ton of synths but would definitely like to have a centralized “brain” for the whole setup (Minikorg 700fs, Matriarch and Syntrx and OT, MnM and A4.) for more efficient workflow.
It seems to me that having everything ready to go all the time would be better than having to memorize midi CC’s and wasting time mapping those constantly.
That’s one of the point with Cirklon. It may be the center of your synths, playing them and even design their sound, if they are enough midi implemented.
But it would not replace the specific way of working with hands your boxes. I prefer play AR or OT directly. Generaly, Elektron gear are very pleasant when played directly.
When i use Ck for my synths, it has a “sequencer playing expander/or VST” flavor.
Because this specific last point, you have to be fan of Auxes way of work, wich is what bring the Ck magic.
This is the main (only ?) point that justify the Ck price and waitinglist.
If not, there are a lot of sequencers (Squarp ones, Squid, MPC, Maschine, ect…) that can be the center of your studio (with MRCC midi interface for exemple).
Note : Squarp has an implemented kind of instruments definition.
EDIT : Ck is well reputed to be an “easy whole song constructing tools”.
On this last point, i’m not an exemple
These are the kind of insights I was after. Thank you very much!
I do love the Elektron workflow but at times the idea of having the cirklon makes me wonder what I might be missing.
I better dlg deeper into making the most of my existing gear before paying that kind of money.
Its sometimes difficult to determine how some gear is to use and that’s when these kind of words of experience mean a lot.
Money is a real question when coming to those amounts (everything counts in large amount. DM).
Ck is more expensive than lot of gear (Perkons ?), and we must not forget that it does’nt produce any sound
Cirklon is a biginvestment for sure. But it stops the mind gassing for eternity on what sequencer to get. Thats important because then you can concentrate on building the rest of your studio.
Yeah exactly!
It’s more than Perkons.
Although the benefits might be more substantial in the long run with the Cirklon.
I would argue money is not an issue. Maybe a Cirklon is too many features for your workflow, maybe it isn’t. But, as it stands and has always stood to this point, it won’t lose value and can be sold for more than you paid. You have nothing to lose when just buying it and trying it out to see if it fits your workflow. It probably took me a year to become totally comfortable with the commands and workflow. It is very Elektron-like in many ways though. Surprisingly, I use the CK mode like 90%. I wasn’t expecting that. Anyway, try it out, if it’s not for you, after a few months sell it and move on.
Yes, this point is right, too.
I understand what you mean, but i’m not sure.
I sold my squid to upgrade Ck with Cv. Sometimes, when i see a second hand one on the market, and even if it’s less powerful, i must convince myself not to buy it. It’s Gas attack, each time. Same for the Futureretro Zillion, that i use to have too.
Maybe, that’s my addiction to sequencers that assault my mind.
Oh no. I really thought it was a gas killer. I guess there is no cure
i certainly have one as well.
but even so Cirklon never seemed to be worth that price or wait time for me.
i never actually used so many cool features of my Pyramid, Oxi One, or even Roland MC-80 that i remember from their manuals, so why pay/wait more ?
It may not be an issue when selling it but it certainly is an issue when dropping close to 2k on something like this.
Auxes ! The mister mind sequencer
RetroKits RK-006.
it even supports USB hubs! so one can utilize USB MIDI advantages without computers.
