Also not a big fan of those. I much prefer the right side of Onward, which instantly gives me some texture I can work with at least 50% of the time. Sometimes it’s so easy that it feels like cheating. Likewise, I’m not a big fan of Mood’s right side, which I find hard to dial in or make sound good/useful. My favorite CBA combo would be Onward’s right side with Mood’s left side.
CBA effects are indeed far from being bread and butter effects. I guess GenLoss and Lossy are easier to dial back. Even Thermae can occupy quite a lot of space when unleashed into the stereo field - as long as it is kept mono, it’s ok. Perhaps try using Onward as mono effect only?
I sold my Onward to fund the L and F. I’ve only used the later a few times. Sometimes I’m like - this thing is amazing. Other times - this thing is so frustrating (some sounds are hard to dial in as much as I would like (the fx on each side of the dial doesn’t quite give me the precision I’d like)).
But not ready to give up on it just yet, to soon for me to know.
Same - I was using the right side of Onward almost exclusively. It’s brilliant and very high quality but just couldn’t justify £400 for that single effect!
Ordered and excited for an incoming Onward. MOOD mk2 is probably my favourite pedal ever and I enjoy Habit too. Would love to try Lost & Found, Lossy and Blooper someday.
less is more. pedals these days allow people to get really carried away in a wash of reverb or delay because the focus has been on ambient and slower forms of music. you’ll find your sweetspots!
I kinda get it. At the same time, I managed to make such completely different sounds out of just that one effect, depending on what you feed into it and how it reacts to dynamics. It does the “transform a well known sound into something you’d never guess the source” thing that I love CBA for the best, at least for me.
I think that’s exactly it, you near something cool and twist a bit more and all of a sudden it’s gone.
BTW:
What makes me really angry is that chasebliss.com and chasebliss.eu only work when I deactivate my Ad and Tracker blocker. I don’t want to be tracked and profiled, WTF!
So regarding Onward I went in with only using the right side and that immediately created a lively swishy slop of a sound. I also started using layer B on both sides of L&F and much prefer the pedal that way…
In this 8 minute clip I’m running the pedal board as a send effect from mixer and playing the Yamaha PSS-380.
Here’s some picture of settings for any one interested…
I’m actually starting to dig these two…
What I’m noticing regarding my pedal board is doesn’t reach its full potential when you use it on sequenced material, it’s when you play a live instrument into it that it really shines!
Edit: a second reflection on Onward. the source material is incredibly important if the output is to my liking. i found that when i use something with a short attack and short decay (guitar for instance) Onward starts stuttering which in turn makes me hate it.
BUUUT if i use something with a longer decay then the stuttering turns to smears, which i like ALOT!
I was not in Mood when Lost & Found was announced, do I understand correctly that we need to wait for the middle of next summer for next ‘small batch’?
They made no guarantees of doing it (although they suggested they were keen to make more L&F). And yes, second half of next year, if the last two small batches are an indication.
Took them 2 years to re-release the Rev C so I wouldn’t hold my breath
Will we ever make more?
If there’s still demand for a Small Batch pedal after the preorder period we’ll consider doing another batch in the future with a different color (or design). The whole point is that everyone who wants one can get one – but it will likely be at least a year between batches.
Oof, okay, thanks. At least they could have left the form to apply, otherwise I’m not sure how would they estimate the potential demand.
They talked about how fast and how many L&F sales they made during the first run. They’ve been pretty consistent with supply, development and planned growth over the last few years (special events not withstanding), so I would trust them to have a handle on this. Also, the essence of their Small Batch builds is exactly about only building to demand.
Totally agree with this
Absolutely, Onward reacts strongly to what it’s being fed. Besides the character of the sound, that also applies to changes in velocity, decay etc. I think it’s built so that you can „play“ the pedal with your guitar with slight changes. Which means if you feed it with a static sequence, it only starts to shine once you move those knobs. Alternatively, just use the hold/loop function on freeze and then play over that texture.
On my Onward, I have activated only the following dip switches: MISO+spread (to stereorise my analog synths), and latch. Deactivate spread to reduce the “wall of sound” by switching off stereo processing. What’s more, sidechain and duck dip switches change the default sound of or interaction between both freeze and glitch sides, while reverse and 1/2 speed dip switches influence the sound of glitch.
Btw that’s a hell of an effects chain you have there, no pun intended ![]()
