Sounds kinda like how absolutely unnecessarily complicated CBA‘s MIDI implementation is at this point. Just give these pedals a regular or maybe MIDI input and this can easily be done via Sysex. If it has to be small, use a DIN MIDI jack. They’ve clearly outgrown this pedal format now.
For the update it’s important to follow the instructions closely: Connect the pedal via USB first, THEN power it up. I missed this too on my first attempt and the pedal didn’t show up in the menu, but when I followed the instructions, the update went flawlessly.
One more note: You need to restart the pedal (switch the pedal power off/on) after the update. At first the pedal did nothing, which was scary, but after a power cycle it was back to life.
On the MK I Stretch sound: I think they did not demo it well. I never owned a MK I, but with the new firmware I can get very close to the sound they demoed with MK I in their video.
I only whish there was an option to use the MK I Stretch algorithm without switching to Classic mode.
After speaking with Support I installed that WCID driver then DSU in FS mode appeared and the pedal recognized. I closely followed instructions (especially that firstly the usb cable then power on).
But I got so scary because for three times the Installing process got stuck and no sound at all (even after rebooting).
Fourth time I disconnected the MIDI/EXT cable…and the update went smooth in less the 10 seconds.
Now lets try this NewOldSound.
Thanks for keeping my hand in these hours of blind wandering
Yes, I just got my new LE Mood (Light Brite) mkii and am also noticing it gets relatively warm/hot compared to all my other CBA pedals. What did support tell you, may I ask? I’m really hoping this is just normal and I don’t have to return it or send it in because I use it so much…
I had that same concern with my mk2 that I bought in the first batch. Chase Bliss customer support confirmed that it was expected to get warm.
Mine gets a little warm too. Not nearly as much as the Syntakt.
They said it is completely normal and expected and that I should not worry. There is basically a computer inside the pedal, and computers get hot.
I ended up selling the pedal, but not only because of this.
Awesome, thanks! That’s what I figured (plus they have incredible customer service in case something ever goes wrong), I just assumed it wouldn’t be safe to keep it on all the time, but I guess it’s alright. My mki didn’t get warm at all, so I thought maybe something was wrong.
Can anyone confirm that this cable (Distaster Area Designs 5P-CBA PRO MIDI Cable) actually works with a Digitakt/Digitone? Chase Bliss support recommends going with their Midibox instead but I am looking for the simplest solution without having to provide extra power. FYI, my only need is to be able to send midi clock from my Digitakt/Digitone to a Chase Bliss Mood MkII.
I am getting accustomed to my MOOD II.
But it seems that the synth level is coming a bit too hot, I hear unwanted distorsion and have to keep the incoming level quite low.
Is there a way to set the CB pedal to synth line level?
I can’t speak for the Mood mkII, but the mkI distorts very easily with a synth signal. I emailed CBA about it. They gave me an unsatisfactory answer along the lines of “synth makers are lying about what line level means”, which didn’t help.
I bought a re-amper because I’m a “throw money at problems” type of person. You can try turning down the synth. I’ve read several comments on here recommending this for various pedals. In my case a re-amper made more sense because I wanted to play the volume control during performance and didn’t want to worry about going too far with it whilst also controlling other stuff on stage.
Habit & Lossy seem to have more headroom; GenLoss mkII even more. I’m not sure about Onward yet. (yes, I have a CBA problem)
I use this re-amper. It’s costly. Cheaper ones exist. I think I’ll try this one next time.
I usually keep my line-level volume with Mood pretty low just to be safe. I haven’t had any issues like I do with Thermae. It constantly distorts, but it sounds so, so good. I actually just bought a second Mood II for my practice space, and ended up programming 87 presets last night! I ran my OB-6 into it, then plugged headphones into the output. Sounded perfect. The MISO feature is the best!
Totally concur with @Octagonist. I’ve also found Lossy and GLII to have way higher headroom. In fact, I often use them as colorful boosts, but Clean might be the best yet at handling line levels.
I also have an awful CBA addiction. I keep them all beneath my desk for instant access. Use them every day.
Same problem with both Onward and Thermae. I use Radial Eng StageBug6 prior to those to avoid any clicks and noises as well as, only when needed, to reduce the signal down by 15db then re-amping it with the Strymon Deco V2.
That’s one of the downsides with CB pedals in general, the only CB pedal which seems to revel in hot signals is Clean, which is understandable
I use this cable from the same manufacturer and it has been working without any issues.
Interesting. I haven’t run into any distortion issues with Onward yet. I have it hooked up to headphone out of Nina most of the time, which is quite loud.
Mine are hooked to the line out of OB-X8 and Prophet 10. The behavior is the same for either synth. Of course, their output is quite hot.
There are a lot of people complaining about volume levels in Mood. To me, the answer is pretty clear, after I managed to make a pretty good “tribute” in Max/Msp: the weird architecture itself of the pedal is the “problem” here. You have a delay that by default sum to dry in a microlooper (the microlooper is “more dense” than a normal looper) the microlooper has overdub (!!?), and you can feedback the microl to the delay that has a freeze function. There is no way to make the gain perfectly controllable and as a matter of fact none ever designed such weird but in my opinion brilliant architecture.
I could not get Disaster Area Designs to confirm that this cable would work with my Digitakt/Digtone so I just ended up going with the Chase Bliss MIDIbox instead. A little more pricey but also more expandable. So far it’s working perfectly.
CB knows people are using synths with their pedals and they are now designed to take line signals.
Thermae is the only one I’ve had issues with.
Mood Mk2, no issues.
