Changing sample slots without restarting sample

Lets say I have two drum samples and the first is a more sparse version than the second. Is there a way that I can switch back and forth between SAMPLE A and SAMPLE B without retriggering the sample from the beginning? I know I can make this work with two tracks and Scenes but was wondering if this can work using up only 1 track. Thanks in advance.

it needs a trig at some point. one idea would be to use one shot trigs.

say you have 2 drum breaks, both 64 steps. sample 1 is playing on a 64 step pattern
you want sample 2 to play from step 32-64. one shot trig and sample lock sample 2 on step 32. then it will only trigger when you arm it.

you could use slices to have the sample play from half way through rather than the beginning. just slice in half and p-lock the slice.

THX JB!

I was hoping to find a way that was a little more spontaneous for live applications. Switching from sample A to B just for a step or two, just to add some drum variation on the fly. I’m currently doing this with the crossfader but was wondering if there are other methods out there.
