Changing external patches on MIDI channel per pattern

I’m trying to save patch changes going to my external synths per pattern and per step and the Octatrack doesn’t seem to do this.

Let’s say pattern A01 has midi channel 12 on track 1. I assign program 50 in the note setup.

Let’s say I go to pattern B01 and have midi channel 12 on track 1 again but I set it to program 99.

When I go back to A01 it is now set to 99.

I tried placing a lock but it doesn’t work.

I watched Cenk change a patch per step on a Sub 37 using a Digitakt simply by pressing the trig and turning the program knob. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=3ufuI1zYHR0

Is the Octatrack incapable of this?

I just find it hard to believe. I must have a setting wrong or the way to do this isn’t so obvious.

Yes, if the synth needs Program Changes.
