Getting used to my RYTM and how to fit it into a live performance. Is it possible to change patterns of the RYTM using sysex from an external device?
What i want to do is use my Yamaha RS7000 sequencer to run my synths and act as a phrase sampler. I want each pattern on the rs7000 to have a program change sent out that brings up the proper pattern on the RYTM.
Couldn't find any data on the RYTM's sysex implementation. I think I've figured out how to make the RS7000 send the proper system exclusive messages.

The Analog Rytm has no documented SysEx specification, although some intrepid third-party programmers may have decoded it.
You can use MIDI Program Change messages to allow patterns to be selected externally; see page 50 of the AR’s manual.
Thanks for the quick reply. First time trying these types of things with midi, gonna give program changes a try. If I can’t figure it out probably be back with a few questions.
Ok so I think I’m almost there. Everything is routed except I don’t know what to send to the RYTM? How can I find the program changes to send to the RYTM? Are there midi standards for these type of program changes?
have not tried this myself, but I’d wager that sending a program change with the value of “1” should switch to the first pattern in bank A? This is at least how I’d expect it to work…

you can send program changes without using sysex messages, unless the machine you want to send the PC doesn’t accept standard MIDI PCs but rather SYSEX messages (which for the AR i think is not the case)
the RS7000 should handle things with no problems, make sure to check that the AR is set to receive PCs and you should be fine.
