Can't insta mute long samples?

hi!

any workaround to mute long samples right away? do i really have to wait for patern to finish before its muted?

Digitakt mutes the trig, not the audio. Which is very useful, unless you actually want to mute the audio.
No way round it as far as I know, except for a fill condition amp env mod/level mod.

Bring the track level down on the Mixer page?

A plocked trig with desired velocity for the beginning of the sample.
Stop it trigging the sample again with track trig and previously set lowest velocity maybe ? (Didn’t try)

Trig or Trigless preview (trig + yes) with shorter enveloppe?

…or maybe trigs set to the FILL condition that are silent? Hitting the fill should then stop the sound and then you can mute the track to prevent further trigs?.. I’ve tested nothing.

I don’t believe velocity is plockable, or this would be an easy work around. I think @Microtribe has a pretty cool solution with the fill parameter on amp envelope. That’s something I’d like to try out, but I dont usually use longer samples on the DT.
EDIT.
I’m a ding dong. Of course you can plock velocity. I do it all the time! It’s not an LFO destination though, and that’s where I had my little brain fart.

Love using Fills for these utilitarian functions.
Great tip!

Yeah… i honestly hadnt thought of using the FILL condition that way. super cool.

Yes there is a way…
Set the amp to note length, set the amp release to very short.
Now set the the trig length as the length of the sample.

As soon as the trig is muted it stops the sample

perfect thanks!

i will try this when i get home thanks a lot!

Not entirely true. It will mute after it has reached the set length of the trig. It mutes the trig not the audio so even in this setup the sample will keep playing until it has reached the set length of the trig.

@Gloaming
If we are talking about long samples, I found the most useful way to do this is to lock all amp and length parameters as you want to the trig in the sequencer. For the track itself set the amp attack, hold and release to 0, or 1 if it causes a click at 0. Now, if you want to instantly mute the sample, mute the track, then tap the track trig to retrigger the sample.
Because of the amp settings it will simply stop playback of the sample.

thank you! i know digitakt is not ment for long samples but i really hope they implement this future.

like, patern mute, global mute and audio mute

Well, DT works fine with long samples. Use them all the time. Not longer than 10 seconds most of the time, but still :). Most of the time there’s a workaround. The muting like I explained above works really well. Using FILL is also nice but it kind of renders it useless for other stuff since it now is a mute button

There’s another way even: set amp hold to note length, amp decay time to infinite, note length kept short. Now turning down decay time will mute the sample. Use func+decay time to quickly set it to 0.

always awesome tipps  thanks!

One way I use that works well (but is a slog to setup correctly) involves using an lfo to track the sample’s start point so that wherever you trigger it within the seq’s cycle, it will be correctly placed timing-wise - making the trig a live audio toggle (held=on, not held=off) with the sample ‘looping’ via the lfo underneath…

…on the ot, people complain about audio mute instead of trig mute…
which has the downside of cutted off fx tails…
…on the dt, people complain about trig mute instead of audio mute…
which has the downside that longer samples won’t shut up in time…

we can’t have it all…i guess…but there’s always a workaround…so work around…

while yes…for future concepts we can hope for switching between different mute behaviours embedded in wireing and firmware…

This sounds like an interesting approach, sorry if this is a dim question but what type of lock do you use here to stop the amp and length parameters triggering when you first start the long sample running?
