In addition to everything mentioned above, I found that layering the analog voices with utility samples rather than full kick samples gave good results. Using transient-only samples, or another specific frequency range (mostly high and mid-high). And let the analog voices do the heavy lifting where it does it best, in the lower range and the top (the tic). Think of it as a sandwich.

You can find those kicks utility samples everywhere or even make them yourself.

Also, if you work with “full” samples, with some harmonic content, tuning the sample part to the analog part is crucial, as mentioned a few times in this thread. Go trough the tuning range until you find the spot with the least phase cancellation. There really is a sweet spot.
