Hello,
I’m fairly new to the octatrack, really loving it so far. I’m having some difficulty getting the samples to change when changing the part (through changing the pattern I should add). I’ve seen some youtube tutorials so I’m aware this is possible. Exactly what I’m trying to do: Currently I have long samples (3min) on the first four tracks (pattern A01, part 1). I was planning on using the arranger (haven’t gotten that far yet) to automatically jump to pattern A02, part 2, with four different samples on the first four tracks. Also planning on programming a tempo change, which I believe to be possible.
However I still can’t get the samples to stick, even saving them to different parts, whatever the more recently loaded samples are will remain, despite the pattern and part switch.
Any ideas on where something might be going wrong? I’m sort of pulling my hair out over here.
Many thanks,
GM

You need to place the pattern 2/part 2 samples on different sample slots than the part 1 samples. The 128 slots are shared by all parts in a bank. That is, when you currently change those samples in a slot for part 2, you’re also changing them for part 1.

I tend to use blocks of 10 for part 1, next 10 for part 2, etc…, so they don’t overlap.

By the way, this aspect of the OT (part, pattern, sample management) is the most anger-inducing hair-pulling aspect of the machine, IMO.

That did it, thanks!
I guess I was thinking the order had something to do with the machine order but obviously that wouldn’t make too much sense. That should clear up some other issues as well. If that is a bad as it confuses me I’ll be thrilled.
Hopefully I won’t be back on here in a half an hour after I can’t get the tempo to change when switching patterns.
Many thanks again!

…pre fixed tempi is ONLY possible via the arranger…

so don’t ask…don’t wonder…that’s the way to do it…tempo per pattern can’t be done in any other way…arranger or manually on the fly…

always assign the first 8 slots in the static sample pool at last…otherwise, anytime you turn on a new part, ot takes those first ones to assign them in first place automatically again…
