Can't connect Model Samples to transfer

I have tried both a replacement micro-USB cable and the original Elektron micro-USB cable, yes. Still no luck, however.

Currently under device settings I’ve got both MIDI in and MIDI out set to the “M+U” setting for sending and receiving MIDI data over the MIDI ports and USB. I’ve tried changing those settings as well, with no luck.

I’ve had difficulty in the past - but one thing that I discovered recently is that I cannot have my DAW open (Cubase). After flailing around and connecting and changing cables etc. etc. - It worked when I closed my recording software down.

Again, i’ve also experienced this problem, so make sure there’s nothing else running that has any interaction with MIDI.

for me it helped to untick the “Check online for new versions of Transfer” option.

ery strange. I’m also using Windows 10 and have had no problems. Perhaps there’s one more sneaky piece of music software monopolizing your MIDI ports: Chrome?

I guess another troubleshooting idea would be to go into your device manager and see if there’s a device named “USB Audio Device.” If so, right click on it and open Properties, then go to the details tab and in the Property drop-down, choose “Bus reported device description.” That should yield the value “Elektron Model:Samples.” If that all looks ok, then the m:s should be correctly connected to your PC and the next step would be to figure out what’s monopolizing your MIDI ports.

I been in IT 17 years, but quickly googled troubleshooting transfer model samples and got here. It was ok on laptop win 10 but not on my main DAW, as I saw it was git and miss below I decided to get you the solution… A few minutes of watching it try to connect and what windows was seeing I found the solution. I felt it would be the honourable thing to come back and help.
The cause is Microsoft’s built in cloud and virus scanning security features. Regardless of whether your using a 3rd party virus prog, MS will still sample cloud submissions. Just temporarily turn off all 3 features cloud, scan, tamper etc. Then Elektron Transfer will work as intended. Just turn them back on after. Tbh once you ok the transfer app it should keep working afterwards. Annoying problem, but at least an easy solution. Hope that helps anyone below. Be lucky.

• Open WINDOWS search box
• Type Defender / Open Windows Defender Firewall
• In Windows Defender Firewall main widow click on ‘‘Allow app or feature through Windows Defender Firewall’’
• In the new pop-up window click on ‘‘Allow another app…’’
• Browse to the executable file for Transfer software, usually in C:\Program Files (x86)\Elektron Transfer / Click on it to add it to Defender’s exceptions.
• Re-Initiate Transfer / Voila!

I had the same problem, two different computers, Windows 10 and 11. Tried the firewall exemption, unplugged my usb interface—then I remembered having this problem before. Both the MIDI in and MIDI out have to be set to Model.Samples on the transfer app. Default is wrong, the MIDI out is set to Microsoft GS Wavetable Synth. You can see it in justmull’s screenshot above.

I just had the same issue with my second hand M:S . Luckily I had a stack of 7 different usb cables which I’ve tried in all 6 different usb ports. Finally one of the cables worked in a different port. I’d say keep trying with the cables and pray to the gods!

Hi. I had this problem and I worked out that a fix for me is that if my laptop isn’t plugged in (ie charging) it works perfectly. And if it is plugged it. It’s not working.

No idea why this works for me but I thought I’d share for the next person that looks for an answer.
