I see the OT in my OS (W7) device manager when i turn it on (although it doesn’t appear with that name unless i turn on usb mode on the OT i guess - havent tried USB mode since i reinstalled my PC). I see the AR and it works fine but the OT is invisible in FLStudio (v12)…

I do know my way around flstudio (since a decade) and it’s midi panel. OT not visible even as a generic device. How do you force it in?

The OT appears as a USB storage device. The OT is not capable of being a MIDI or audio interface.

damn. thanks.

I love my OT but sometimes it feels like my BMW’s antique GUI for a CD player  - and no overbridge…

Is there any easy way to control the OT with flstudio?
Trick question, i see midi info coming in my sub37. Can you see that in the OT? Like the midi button lightin up? Im trying to debug my midi chain…

You can control the OT externally via a MIDI cable. I wouldn’t want to but it’s possible.

I swear I saw a mention of indicators on the display for MIDI IN/OUT activity, something like one pixel being lit for either but I can’t find it in the manual just now so maybe my memory is wrong. There are MIDI monitors in software like MIDIOX if that’s any help. Maybe go from PC MIDI OUT -> OT MIDI IN, OT MIDI THRU -> PC MIDI IN and then monitor the input.

thanks. I was thinking about midi ox for a while not sure it would have help. I’ll check it out…

Use MIDI messages.

From the OT manual:

Two pixels in the upper left corner of the LCD indicates MIDI port activity. The left pixel blinks when MIDI data is received, the right pixel blinks when MIDI data is being sent out.

It would also be worth you reading the OT’s MIDI implementation in the manual.

If you want to, you are able to control all the pages (play/amp/lfo/fx) display knobs (not the setup ones) you can also send chromatic pitch as notes +/-12 from 84 (C5). You can start recording via notes as well.

I don’t know why you would want to though. Fruityloops can do all the things that the OT can do right out of the box.

Generally people either make their loops in a DAW (FL/Live/Whatever), and export them to OT. or use the OT as a sample manging/sound designing tool, and export the audio to their DAW. Synching the two doesn’t really make much sense from a workflow point of view, because even if you are using it in a live context, using OT live with FL playing backing tracks, you might as well render your backing track to a single file and play it on the OT direct.

good point. I dont play live unless i jam. But i use FLStudio to record what i jam… So the OT might be used both ways (except to record - although that’s not excluded).

I’ve been able to control the OT via midi before so i know it’s possible, i just can’t do it now (probably after reinstalling everything… and i might have not used my usb midi box in favor of my focusrite interface…)

I just couldn’t recall whether i saw or not the OT in FLStudio’s midi prefs… But i guess it doesn’t show up…

Forgot to mention that i want to synch all to flstudio (until i get a motu midi interface to synch better). I got a midi daisy chain for the moment and it’s a pain…

FLStudio used to work well to make all the synth sequences before - except synching them together which is why i wanted to start all the synths sequencer and add layers after while recording the midi in flstudio and the sound at the same time. But i just couldn’t synch anything!

Now i’ve made the AR the master with just midi cables and it works! Finally… Screw the PC but i can’t record midi now… good luck editing a good song’s mistakes…

Just can’t use the AR in FLStudio as it crashes FLS as soon as i hit play so i might have a loop with the midi and the usb midi… I know it’s easy to fix with the internal setting of the AR but i wanted to use the AR to receive the synch from FLS (which i dont think can receive the synch without other add ons - midiox + rewire + midi loop i think) and start the sequencers at some point in the fl song playlist - but impossible to find a way to start it - without hitting start in flstudio which crashes everything and without any control over the OT - which the AR does well…

I dug out my midisport 2x2 but didn’t help to connect to the OT - i could see a midi signal but it’s not that helpful. I couldn’t get any midi signal out to flstudio. And in 2 months i’ll have to unplug it all to go replug in my new studio/apt… At least i figured an easy way to do this…

Thanks for your lights guys! :+1:
